Help with old DP motor.

Anyone know much about old electric motors? 1/3hp - Single phase Companion

Bought a DP220 over the weekend and motor has an issue.

Runs but won't start by itself.

Most likely the start winding is not being energized. There is a switch on the open end of the housing that controls it. Try blowing some air in there to clean it out, if not, you have to take it apart to see what the switch is doing. Some sandpaper on the contacts usually fixes things.

Some motors like this have an internal capacitor. Over time this part goes bad, it's used in starting the motor. Most motors mount the capacitor in an external housing, some will put it inside one of the end bells or inside the mounting base.
