Help with outdoor light

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this. When I bought my property years ago it had this light fixture with an outdoor switch that had a bulb base broken off in it. I've tried pulling the bulb base out, but it seems to be fused in there and I just get little pieces of aluminum... Can I just replace the fixture? It appears to be screw on to EMT conduit. Here's a couple pictures.

You can take the fixture off that switch box. Once it's off, you'd have to see what you've got, and figure out how to replace it.

I'd bet you can replace the bulb holder in the existing fixture, though.

that's an old fixture. yes it can be replaced, but I am guessing the working is old, the insulation is breaking down & you are opening a can of worms . It doesn't sound like you have a lot of electrical experience. you might want to fetch some help with this one.
it's probably relatively easy to remove the switch and mount a fixture to that .

Just get in there with a needle nose and peel out the base of the old bulb. Yes it will come out in many pieces.

Fixture is broke and missing a globe or shade. Guessing it was salvaged and then put on your garage. Was probably very expensive when new. Even just a switch cover like that is over $50 these days.

I’ll see if/when I have some time and try to dig out the rest of the base. I am a novice, but I think my biggest problem is not knowing the name/term to search to try replacing parts when they aren't standard or I haven’t come across them before. I’ve tried searching and haven’t found a light figure that I could just remove this one and add a new one on.

I think what you are thinking is a bulb base might be the actual socket.

I think he has a socket like this but in any case it will be pricey. probably wise to just replace the entire set up with something else

I think you're right and that's kinda what it looks like. I'll see if I have time this weekend to open up the switch and see what I'm working with. Moving to a more modern light might be the better way to go. I may let it sit for another 8 years too lol

What I was going to say. The broken base of a bulb is easy to bend, grab the broken edge and twist, and it will sort of collapse on itself.
