I have a phase converter I got many years ago but forgot how many hp it is and there is no id tags on it, anyone here have a guess to what size this might be its original color would have been gray eh? Im thinking its either a 2hp or 5hp but not sure i used it to run my mill that has a 2hp 3ph motor. I tried contacting where i bought it and they were no help at all eh.

Another man's opinion on the same subject ;)

More or less look at the nameplate of the idler motor. You can use it for machine motors less than or equal to that of the idler motor.

Edit: that does not look like a 5hp motor to me...more like a 1 or 2hp, probably be OK as the mill starts under essentially no load. It looks like its mounted right to the mill, are you intending to run something else with it?

I think it was a 2hp also but cant remember. No it will still be used for the mill but I just built a new shop and want to get the right electrical wiring to the phase converter thinking 20a 220v / 12-2 wire should work if a 2hp eh
I had it in my garage with 40a 220v and I think thats a bit overkill eh
Thanks
