I am going to start finishing out a room in my basement soon and have been thinking about getting a laser to get the angles square. Anyone have one they would recommend or talk me out of this? Budget would be $100 max.

The room is all concrete (poured ceiling, block walls). I will be shooting 2x4s to the ceiling, insulating between them, and plan to put up tongue and groove ceiling. Probably a couple of 13' beams(4x6 maybe) to break up,the ceiling. Sheetrock walls after 2x4s and insulation.

Absolutely buy a laser level, they are SO nice for layout.

Dont even consider buying the "dot" or "point", only get a "line" model. Using dots just doesnt make sense.

I have the Bosch, 50' cross line model, paid around $100 w/ discounts iirc.

I would consider buying a tripod, mine only has a strange cradle thing that helps but a tripod or pole extension would be very useful.

I bought the Bosch line level when my old dot laser level died. It worked hi and low and across the my bedroom remodel. Leveled my floor before putting down wood, shot lines across the ceiling for can lights and across the walls for electrical outlets and TV mounts. I don't miss the dot level.

I have a Johnson line laser. I don't remember what I paid but it's a very nice unit. Very happy with it.

My wife bought me one for tiling the bathroom last year, and I wouldn't live without it now. Great little tool, Mine is mastercraft, a Canadian brand. Self leveling, X/Y axis. Can also lock up and just project the lines. I recommend it!
