I currently have a ceiling mounted electric heater still in the box awaiting install. The more I thought about it, the more I decided that I really would like to have A/C in the summer. While I love my PTAC units in my kennel, there is no good place in the garage to put one that it's not an absolute eyesore from the front of the house. That leaves me with my electric ceiling mount supplemented with a window A/C unit in the summer, which would be fine but I don't know that I want to mess with installing/uninstalling the window unit every spring/fall. Since I was a complete mule about hiding the home A/C units when we built the house, I can't very well just stick some ugly thing on the front of the house half the year!
Anyway, if I go with an 18,000 BTU heat pump mini split, I may be able to put the outside portion on the side of the house where it won't be visible.
In my plan below I was thinking of putting the inside portion over the door that leads to the little "grill kitchen" and the outside portion outside between the top garage door and the man door. Is this a good spot to have the unit? Or is it too close to the large garage doors?
Thanks,
Annette

Annette -

Whats on the outside of the bottom wall in your picture? I think I'd try to put it on that wall, since you have direct outside access. That would sure be easier to run the refrig lines, etc.

The outside bottom portion and right wall (the 2 walls with windows) are the front of the house and very visible. This would be the perfect wall for a PTAC unit (at about 1/3 the cost of a mini split) but I don't want anything on the front, this leaves the side where the driveway is.
Garage is portion that juts out

The area to the left of doors is where a new door will be cut in to access the grill kitchen. The trash cans will be gone!

Is there any room on the wall that has the freezer/fridge on the other side? You could mount the inside unit there and mount the outdoor unit on the other side of the grill kitchen. Or even between the under-stair storage and the wall for the freezer area (not sure what's behind that though).

I'm thinking that's the best spot as well. If I mount it over the door to the grill kitchen then I can leave the door open so both rooms can benefit. If I don't need to then I'll shut the door and just heat/cool the garage proper.
I'm also thinking of mounting the condenser unit on brackets about 6ft off the ground to leave the wall open for storing bikes against, or possibly putting a potting table there.
