HELP with Post Frame Gable End Fascia Board

I have a question about how the gable end fascia (trim) board should be installed on my 8/12 pitch roof. I have the roof purlins overhanging 10.5" so that the 1.5" wide 2x6 will nail to the end of the purlin (not beneath) to equal the 12" overhang that I'm looking for. However, when attaching the fascia board I notice that the peak seems to be higher than the last roof purlin. I understand this is because the last roof purlin is set downward several inches to leave an opening for ventilation which will be covered by the roof cap metal. Any advice or direction would be much appreciated!

2x4 screwed to purlins hanging down so fascia screw can bite into something.

I'm a little confused to your reply. I have a 2x6 fascia board or "fly rafter" screwing in to the ends of the 2x4 purlins. Would you be able to give more details?

Right. Thought you were asking for a better way. Running some more 2x under those purlins will strengthen them up as well as give something better for a screw to bite into. Anything into end grain is not going to hold well

I think Kaizen is suggesting that you add a 2X4 behind your 2X6 and under your roof purlins as this would allow more surface area to screw you 2X6 fascia board and the 2X4 would be fastened to the roof purlins as well.
The top of your 2X6 fascia board is on the same plane as the top of your roof purlins and depending on what type of ridge cap, fascia trim and how you trim the gable end of your roof metal, everything should be covered or wrapped in metal.
