Vintage Diagnostic Tools might be of interest to someone doing a vintage man cave. However it is not worth much.

Now if it is older USA hand tools there could be a little bit of money to be made. You might be better off getting your post count up and selling here. There are many great buyers and sellers. It took time but i found a matching Indestro DOE SAE and Metric set here from 2 different sellers.

I just got rid of a bunch of that stuff. Monetarily it is near worthless. I gave some of it to Tom who is doing a shop restoration on here. I wanted it to go somewhere rather than end up in a dumpster.

So maybe i'll try 15 bucks for both. If they don't sell i'll give them away or hang them on a wall. How about this muffler and tip? Used condition, 2 1/4 inch inside.

I hate to break the news but a non inductive timing light and dwell meter are "free pile" items.

Best appraisal for virtually every item can be found on eBay---Sold listings.

Only if they're to be sold on Ebay.

I've never been able to get close to Ebay prices on CL.

I can't get eBay's sold price either, but it gives me idea for pricing.
I can't remember ever having an item that I could not find in completed or sold items.
Like I have a Stihl 200t chainsaw in exceptional condition that I can't sell for $475.00! Saws that don't come close to mine in appearance sold for $5-6 hundred!

If you can't get beat eBay sold prices on cl then stick them up on eBay. Your going to lose ~10%-15% to fees and shipping! but if hat is more then you can get on cl then that is the way to go.

So I put the dwell meter and timing light up for 15 bucks. A guy comes to look at the light and hooked it up to his honda to see if it worked. After moving the wires around a little it flashed once. My question is, would it flash regular on a newer car? If so i'll try cleaning up the connections.

This, but, BUT.....

This x20

You have to equate the effort and yes costs of using ebay. Which is why I usually scoff when someone at a garage sale tries to quote an ebay price. Which is usually just as listed price, not factoring in the buyer pool (or lack there of a local sale, or the work and fees associated with ebay).

O you can use them, they are just not very convenient compared to an inductive clamp. About the best place to use them these days IMHO is on small engines where you can gain easy access to the bare spark plug connector.

Hello everyone. I sold the timing light and dwell meter for 15 bucks to a guy with an old tractor. What kind of price do you think I should put on these 1987 caprice, monte carlo, el camino gm dealer service manuals. I checked ebay. They are priced from $10 to $200. These are originals. Scored about sixty of them. All different makes, years, condition. I figured id start with these two for $85. Way too much? Or not enough? They are in good used condition. Some marks, and finger prints. Not bad though.

I think I paid $40 for my 1985 shop manuals for my Monte Carlo, but I can't sell a set of 92 S-10 manuals for $10. I think it all depends on who's there.

However you price it, I advise you not to be that guy in the craigslist ***** thread on the Garage Journal.

Take how much your time is worth, vs how much goes in to selling $10, $15, $20 dollar items - cleanup/prep, price research, listings, storage, showings, packing/shipping, after-sale support and occasional non-paying bidders, returns, chargebacks, etc - unless you have a retail store or are doing bulk online selling - it's not worth the time/effort for inexpensive items. And with online - it's easy to lose out on shipping.

My local ebay consigner will not take anything worth less than $30 (before shipping/handling) just for that reason.

Suggestion - bring it to live auction. I've cleared about $12K of inventory at auctions in the last 2 months with minimal effort - would have taken years and a ton of work with garage/yard sales/craigslist, and with the right auctineer - auctions bring better pricing.

Maybe you should move this to the classifieds section and while your at it remove this sig from your phone "Sent from my LG-L38C using Tapatalk 2", because we don't really care what device it is sent from.

Thanks for feedback. I don't have a craigslist or online business. Basically I'm tired of renting and just trying to raise money so i can buy a house of my own. I'm not greedy, but i don't want to sell myself short either. That's why I'm asking what you guys think. Maybe i'll start at 45 bucks for the gm books. I definetly don't want to end up a craigslist *****!!!

I've sold a good many things on Craigslist and here are some things I've found that work for me.

1. Search on Craigslist itself for items identical or similar to what you're wanting to sell. On Google, you can search all Craigslist sites by typing in the search box "itemIwanttosell site:craigslist.org" You don't need the quote marks and you put your search term before the site:craigslist.org That will show all craigslist listings for the search term. Lots of them will be expired. Some will be active and perhaps give you an idea of what other people are ASKING. Remember, the asking price is not the selling price

2. Ebay sold listings are another good place to look. You can also check out completed listings, which will have both sold and completed but unsold listings. The completed but unsold listings sometimes give you a better idea of the actual demand for an item. You might find looking at sold listings that a couple have sold for $x amount each. A look at the completed but unsold listing show that there have been dozens (lots!) of them listed but unsold for various prices. By comparing the sold vs. the unsold you can sometimes figure out why the ones that sold did sell vs. the unsold items. Sometimes it's as simple as price but it can be completeness of the item, shipping costs, condition, location or something else.

3. Ebay and Paypal fees are going to cost you 15-20% plus some risk that the buyer returns the item and the Ebay sale actually ends up costing you money.

4. Your time is incredibly valuable. I generally don't bother listing anything on Craigslist or Ebay for less than $20. In general, it takes the same amount of effort to sell a $1 item as it does to sell a $100 item.

5. It has been my experience that people who ask a lot of questions usually end up not buying and waste a lot of your time. The more questions they ask, they worse they are as customers. Your own personality, the nature of the item and the value of the item are variables here. I believe people should do a little research on their own and don't have much patience for "stupid" questions like "can I use this metric socket set on my 1965 mustang?" (Ok, that's a bit ridiculous but I hope you get my point.) I'm a bit more tolerant of questions on complex and expensive items and, while I do want to sell my stuff, I also have no desire to mislead people or have them buy things that are inappropriate or perhaps even unsafe for their stated purpose.

I'm sure I probably pass up some sales with my approach, but in the end the only one I have to live with is myself. Good luck on your sales.

What if you had to adjust your points one day?
I would say maybe a classic car forum, so of the guys are into those older tools.
