Help with Pyrex cups for TIG

I'm totally confused. It seems easy enough to order a "stubby gas lens kit" for my 17 torch. Then I look at clear cups and they don't thread on to the collet holder. Then I see that an adapter is needed but I don't know why or where in the grand scheme of things. I've looked at a few real welding equip online sales sites and they don't explain the whole concept clear enough for me.

So, I think I need a no. 10 or 12 clear cup, would like the secondary diffuser in that 3/4" cup and would like to buy as few parts as needed to accomplish this. I don't need extra tungstens or a fiberglass "finger." I just want the bare bones tools.

Suggestions?

For the 17, you've got the standard cup, and the gas lens cup. These are standardized.
I do not believe that there is any standardization of pyrex cups, so if you want a pyrex cup, you need one that matches whatever brand adapter you get for your gas lens.

But why do you need a pyrex cup?

Unless you need extra gas coverage I'd just run a stubby gas lens kit. I got my set from Weldmonger to support his efforts. Having the different sizes in one kit makes life really easy.

Green orings slip over gass lens then twist pyrex over the oring. Tripped me up to.

Get the Edge Pyrex cup kit from Edge welding supply.

https://edgeweldingsupply.com/edge-1718-series/

This would be the page to get cups for your 17 series torch. I've used a bunch of different pyrex cups kits and this is the one we've settled on for welding at work where we do a ton of TIG welding and prefer to use high quality tools. It's the best system for pyrex cups that I've found.

Yup o-rings on the gas lense then slide the cup over. I did cut a couple grooves in the lense for the o-rings to sit and make it easier to get the cup on.

That's what I as thinking but then Jody shows a lot of the Furick cups with the secondary lens while using up to 1" stick out. For something like a bike frame that's just about the cat's ***.

However, he doesn't make it real easy to get just what you need.

thanks to all so far. I'll get something.

He said he didnt want that extra stuff. I was in the same boat, the CK 4 series is what you need for a stubby gas lens for a 17 series torch btw.

Bought a kit from arc zone.

Also like the arc zone hybrid tungsten, no switching for different materials. (I know, you don't need tungsten, but I couldn't resist.)

Next for me will be the Furick stuff. (lost all tig supplies in a fire, starting over)

Very sorry to hear about the fire. Everyone's nightmare. Is there a thread about it?

And thanks once more for all the help, guys. I think from here I can sort it all out.

Thanks, and no thread, yet.

I cant stand to look at the pictures my kid took.

Not to change the subject, but a lot of us have too many tools and duplicates. I wouldn't mind sending on something. I have way too many framing hammers if you're interested in one. They are old school wood handled Vaughn's. I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Don't be shy. I'd love to help out if that's any help.

Thanks for the offer Zeke, I appreciate it, but I'm good.

Been slowly collecting tools again.

Luckily, my syncro 200 was at my buddies shop, so I still have it, but all the little things are gone.
