Hi,

I'm needing some help tracking down some sockets I'm after.

I already have versions of these but I'm replacing the China **** with US/Euro stuff etc. These are the last ones i need to be China free.

I need 14/17/19mm Hex bit sockets. Impact grade with an overall length less than 88mm

Snap on don't make them, they do make chrome non impact ones but they are too long.

Any ideas on a US brand etc ?

I also need an 8 and 10 mm deep 1/4 socket for glow plugs that has a deep internal broach for fitting over plugs.

Snap on deep sockets don't have a deep enough internal broach to fit.

Thanks

Thanks for the info, i'm not sure the Hazet stuff is impact grade ?

Koken - never heard of them, they seem to be made in Japan ?

Koken is top stuff, they just do sockets and drive tools and make pretty much everything you could want. Yes they are Japanese.

The wright stuff looks very good, impact and short enough.

Any links ? I can't for the life of me find anything other than 3/4 drive stuff

Wright is not a sensible choice for the UK, I have some but I import it, there is one dealer that I could find but pricing is so high you just wouldn't go there.
Koken is reasonable here, the Euro brands usually are as well.

As far as a 10 MM 1/4 dr deep socket, my older USA made Craftsman is broached almost to the drive end. Don't know about the 8MM, my 1/4 dr deep socket is an SK, and is only broached about 3/8" deep.

Agreed, didn't realize you were in the UK. Wright are great here in the US, and very easy to warranty if you ever need, but from the UK, I can see that being a nightmare. They're available on amazon.com for the US market.

I was just looking up a set of 1/2 metric hex bit sockets myself, although chrome. For other US options I'd look at Proto or SK, if money wasn't tight from the holidays I'd be buying the SK set. The SK sets I looked at included 3/4 and 19, which the Wright sets don't. Wright makes nice tools but their socket selection isn't the best sometimes

FYI, the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh Pro set is Taiwan, not China, and not actually ****. Though I'm not sure if it fits your length requirements:

Neiko also makes a set in Taiwan:

The comments on Amazon say they are under 76mm long.

+1. Harbor Freight Pittsburgh Pro line is made in Taiwan and a great value. The Neiko set also looks worth the price.

yeah, we don't have the same selection as the states.

So my options so far are the Hazet or Koken.

I'm leaning toward the Koken, the Hazet's don't appear to be impact rated.

I'd still prefer a US or Euro made option.

Warranty is an issue again though with Proto etc. It'll be a pain having to post something back etc.

Realistically my options are the likes of Mac etc - brands that are readily available outside the states.

For the hex impacts koken seems my only option thus far. I like the Facom ones but i suspect they will be china made.

Have you tried these people (not sure if you are close or not)? Look at their line card for compnies they deal with (including Facom)....

Most large companies, such as Proto have worldwide branch locations and local distributors that handle warranties. I also wouldn't worry much about warranties. Tools don't fail that often unless abused.

As for Facom.......e-mail them and ask.

I have emailed Facom. Not had a response yet.

Are you sure koken makes beta stuff ?

That beta stuff looks identical to the made in China hex bit sockets and nothing like Koken's stuff.

Just to follow up on this.

Facom stuff was made in Taiwan.

I ended up getting Koken sockets, a new tool truck showed up at work and is full to the brim with Koken stuff !!
