I picked up a 9002x the other day for $60, guy said it needed batteries. OK fine...cant go wrong for $60 was my thinking. I got it home and changed the batteries and got nothing. I took it to my LWS who I'm on a first name basis with and they said they would ship it for warranty.

My question is I want the one that the lens flips up out of the way and has the grinding/clear lens in it. Can I just buy the shell and swap the AD housing over or are they different?

This would defeat the purpose of the AD.
Basic sheild is the way to go IMO.

a quick comparison and assuming you are referring to the 9100 helmets with the flip lid, i dont think they are interchangeable. the lens kits for the flip ones all say " for 9100 series only" alot and the lenses for the basic helmets dont mention the 9100's for what the lenses fit.

This would defeat the purpose of the AD.

i think you are thinking of the older stlye fixed shade helmets with the small flip up lens, superspec is referring to this style i believe. badass helmets for sure, but starting at $375 and going up and up is out of my budget

The 9000 and 9100 headgear are completely different. I do not believe there are any parts that can be interchanged between either.
