I snagged a Wilton PowrArm Junior last week for the 2" baby bullet I picked up earlier this year. It arrived today. It was advertised as stuck. I figured it was fixable. It looks to be in very good shape even though it was repainted black. Gah! Anyway, I'm looking for help on taking this thing apart, cleaning it up, lubricating it and attaching my baby bullet to it. I removed the snap ring from the base. I'm not sure how to get the next plate loose. Do I need a special tool that has prongs that fit the two holes on the plate? Thanks!

It more than likely just needs to be tuned. There's a set screw on the side that needs to be loosened before you can adjust the bottom plate. If you don't have the right tool for the -2- holes, you can drop in a couple of long pins or bolts and use a screwdriver in between them to spin the bottom plate.

Check out this video by a very talented machinist oxtoolco. The video shows everything much more clearly than I can express with words.

Let us know how you made out.

Fierljeppen Thanks for the link. I watched about 60 seconds of the PowrArm part and went out to check mine out. Saw the hex set screw. Thought it might be stripped. Recalled seeing how the handle tightened and loosened the ball and gave mine a very slight tap to loosen it and it loosened up easily. Went back to the set screw with another hex key set and got it loose as well. The base wasn't corroded stuck at all. It was just the set screw. However, that still doesn't free the plate enough. I put a little oil to possibly lubricate the bolt that the plate screws onto. Will see what I can do with it tomorrow. Clearly to me though everything works well. I'm wondering if I drive a couple of 20D nails thru a 2x4 to create a "tool" for loosening that plate if would that have enough leverage and torque to do the job.

Make the best "farmer tool" you can come up with, but it shouldn't take an excessive amount of force with that set screw removed.

Here's a diagram of the parts breakdown I found, not sure if it gives you any addition information though. The yellow arrow indicates the location of the set screw.

I reread your comment above and figured that suggestion with 2 pins and a screwdriver might do the trick. Went back out to the shop just now and it came right off. Cleaned the parts up and have the couple of rusty parts soaking in some evaporust. The paint comes off the aluminum easily. Should have it cleaned up and ready to be painted tomorrow. Next will be to try and figure out what color to paint it. Would be nice to try to get the color right and weather it to look like a match for my baby bullet. Anyone know what color this baby bullet would have been or a good match for it now?

Got the old previous black repaint cleaned up. I suspect I should go ahead and remove what I think is the original paint (or primer?) and get down to bare aluminum. Thoughts? Also, what do you guys like best to prep aluminum for primer? Thanks!
