Help with this lock

I'm changing the lock to my MasterCraft tool box top box. The tab doesn't seem to be removable. Any tips on removing the tab? Should I try brute force?

Did you try prying on the tab with a large screwdriver? It looks like a simple retaining clip.

I'm guessing a nice "jab" from left to right will send that thing off...

As suggested by PCustoms or leaver between the lock and the tab on the right , just need need a bit of force

If it clipped on, it can clip off.

I'd grab it with a needle nose vise grip, then whack the vise grip. It'll just pop off.

thanks guys! i got it off by rocking it up and down. if i pull straight, it will never budge.

GM (and probably everybody else) used that type of clip to secure the separate key lock on their 1950's cars. The cool thing about them is that the 'angle piece' lockset clip slips on/off thru a slot on the door skin and the sheetmetal of the door side stamping/inside door sheetmetal. Easy to reach, to remove and to replace.
