Help with thread view

It used to be that when I viewed a thread, it was in linear mode, oldest first. But, something has changed so that all the threads are in threaded mode. How do I get back to linear mode?

My User CP is set to linear; I've logged in and out; I've searched. It's probably something simple, but it's driving me crazy!

Click on a thread, then go to the display mode button on the top right. I changed to thread mode, and it changed right away, then changed it back.

Yes, but then I have to do that for every thread. How can I get the linear mode to be the default? I don't understand why it doesn't work when I have it set that way in my user cp options.

Just a guess but maybe try deleting cookies?

Thanks for the suggestion, Tony, but no luck. I deleted them as suggested in the User CP section, including restarting the computer - no change. This is driving me crazy!
