Help with tool chest purchase

Hey guys, this is my first post on GJ and I apologize if this is in the wrong spot.

A guy is selling this Craftsman 46in tool chest locally and wants $200. I'm not sure of a model number, or anything else about it. Do you all think this is a good deal? I wouldn't be using it professionally, it would just be for basic homeowner tools.

Thanks!

Appreciate the quick reply! What about it makes it such a good deal? Just curious why I should jump on it since I really have no clue what to look for.

I have never seen a craftsman box like that. Are you from Canada? The drawer layout is odd by most standards. Kennedy made a box like that, but I never knew Kennedy to be a supplier of anything that large to craftsman.

it looks like a nice box for $200. test all the drawers and ask him if he has the key to lock it even if you won't ever use it. it's one of the nicer Craftsman boxes I've seen so you need it i'm sure it will work fine. also take the plywood off the top to check underneath for rust. you might want to buy a piece of butcherblock for the top or look for a nice top box and put a thin rubber piece in between.

if it checks out it looks like a good deal.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm on the east coast of the USA. The ad did mention that he doesn't have a working key. Would a replacement key and/or lock be too much of a pain?

Go get that box! Good deal right there - but make sure it's in good shape

Maybe not; our local Sears sells a package of three Craftsman locks, one of which I'm sure would replace the one on your box.

If your Sears doesn't have the three-lock package and balks at getting it for you, PM me and I'll send you one from here.

Awesome, thanks for the help all. I replied back to the ad to try and set up a time to check it out.

Orca, I appreciate the offer and will let you know if I end up getting the chest and needing help with getting the locks.

:+1:

Keys are not an issue, you can get a set for $6 shipped.
