I recently purchased a Watco 301 HC at a yard sale a couple weeks ago and the jack has been working perfectly. Last night i attempted to use the jack and it will not stay up. There is no fluid leaking anywhere. When i pump the handle the jack does rise but immediately falls. I checked the fluid level which was fine. I then pulled the plugs one at a time and cleaned up the internals. I checked the overload to make sure it wasnt the issue. opening / closing the release does affect the speed at which the jack lowers. I feel like there is a piece of debris causing the issue somewhere. What would be the best way to attempt to fix this before ordering a rebuild kit? Are there any breakdowns available so that i can make sure all the parts are there and in order? Is it safe to use compressed air to blow out the valves after removing the internals?

I "feel" like when you finally get around to tearing the Jack down you will find the main ram seal in pieces. I do have a manual for the 301hc, unfortunately it's on my desktop which isn't hooked up currently as my Office was replaced with Pink Walls, Baby Crib, changing tables and 2 matching dressers... Lol. IME your situation follows a compromised seal to a "T", as seals age they tend to loose the elastomers that keep them pliable, thus they harden and get brittle and then go to pieces, This process is accelerated on seals that don't get used much. The Jack will normally give the user 1 last Hooh Rah that will make them think all is well, then once the seal is off pressure it will just literally go to pieces, this "Normally" happens in the rest position as the cylinder pressure will generally hold everything together, but once the pressure is released, it done and Humpty Dumpty isn't going back together. I'll give it a few days, maybe some of the members I have sent the drawing too can forward it to you, meanwhile I would suggest removing the unit from the frame, and inspecting the internals. If your worried about venturing into the valves without documentation of what your looking for, just hold off. In other words... Don't waste your time trying to blow compressed air into the valve system etc, even if there is a contaminate preventing a seat, without a complete tear down and clean out it will eventually find its way back home. If you need info Now.. In my signature there is a number for HPS, call and ask for Steve, they have the Kit and I'm sure he has the exploded view diagram.
