Hi All,

I am trying to restore an antique engine analyzer. At this point I am trying to figure out which gauge wire to use on the starter tester. In the first picture you can see what the machine says it should be able to handle. The second picture shows that back side where the sire hook up. I am emailing another fellow who has another of the same machine and he says 14/2 wire is in his machine. My question is will that work or will it melt? If I test a starter to make sure it works it will just be an on/off test and not staying attached.

Thanks,

Mike

The panel is marked "500 amperes". Theres no way 14 ga will carry the amperage a starter draws. Think "jumper cable"...

I am assuming that the starter would be out of the car, which in that case it should be ok to use 14/2 cable. That and if you look at the 40's bayonet style connector on the back side there are only two little wires attached to it. There is no schematic or manual that states what gauge cable to use. I am reverse engineering this piece and going off what the other gentleman says his machine has. Does it matter that this only a 6V system that I will be testing on?
