I just typed a long message but the board logged me out before I could post it.

I am stuck in New Jersey 200 miles from my tools, and need to know what wrench/ bit to remove the caliper pins in a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. I will have to buy one when I go for brake pads tomorrow. Anybody know??

I'm going to go with a 14mm and 17mm shallow socket and a breaker bar.

Where in NJ are you? Someone may be close enough to help you out.

Staying tonight at Quality Suites on RT 17, son is picking us up in the morning. Car is at girlfriend's in Ringwood. Autocorrect insists it is Ringworm!!

Got it solved.

Thanks Kent_B. 14 MM wrench was the answer.

Got the pads from The Auto Parts Source in Oakland, and the counter guy there confirmed the wrench size.

Less than an hour to do the job, all noises gone, including the whining from the front passenger's seat. Made it home this afternoon with no issues.

Next weekend we will do it up right with a set of rotors, and the front pads as well.

Got a little of the "People don't do car repairs" attitude from the son's girlfriend, but she was willing to be educated.
