Sorry if you're looking due to the needy title. I don't really need any help today, just wanted to talk about help...

So I've been workin on my garage for a year and a half. Most people would slam up a garage, put some outlets in, OSB, and done. Me, I've got to read this forum, and find all the little cool to haves, A floating shelf, Car lift, air lines in the wall, network cable, two bathrooms etc.

The problem with this is I havn't drawn up a detailed set of plans for everything. I kind of just figure it out as I go. The problem is that I'm now the only person on earth who knows exactly how I want the job done. So far that's meant at most I could have 1 person generally helping me. It *****. Although I enjoy having things done my way. Doing everything myself in my **** manner has chewed up a lot of summer evenings, propane in the winter, and a good measure of my wife's patience.

So how do yall deal with having to have things done your way? I only see two options. Do everything yourself, or come up with a very detailed set of drawings that others can see what you want.

Who do you get to help? Family? Friends? hired out? Co workers?

I should say I've had a bit of success with craigslist. I generally post gigs for help at $10/ hr, and have had some success. Much better than $40/hr to a contractor even though it might be a bit more hasstle.

The only help I ever ask for is when I have no other choice, either because it requires an extra set of hands, or beyond my ability. And that only comes after much much trying and much much failure.

Well my wife helps out quite a bit but for those jobs where it is beyond her or her desire to help, I try and recruit friends and family who already know my "ways." As a last resort I use a local resource called "Hope Now for Youth." Basically ex-gang members looking to turn their lives around. Mostly hard workers and work for minimum wage. Your community might have something similar.
