Henrob Torch

Anybody here have any experience with the Henrob or Dillon torch ?
I am curious about them and if the torch is as good as the hype.

I bought one when I had my first business. I wouldn't go out and spend the money again. I'm not saying the dillon is not a nice tool, but I could do what it does with a cheapo Harris of Victor.
If I came across one at a yard sale or something, sure.
It was 600 bucks 20 years ago. I wonder what they go for now?

Mostly hype. Get a Meco Midget torch or a smith airline torch and save the money.

I bought a regular Smith torch after asking the same questions.
My Welding supplier said I could use the airline tips on my regular torch.
If true I'm good with that even if its heavier. I'm a hobby guy not a production guy.

If you want to lighten up the weight of the torch go buy a set of the light weight hoses from tinmantech.com. You wouldn't believe how much easier it is to maneuver a torch around with the smaller and lighter hoses.

Thanks. I went on line and seen both torch bodies for 130.00
I'm starting to do more Sheetmetal fab and cannot justify a tig. I also looked at a device that you hang your torch on and it shuts it off, then when you pick it up you can religh with the same settings. I had seen pictures of them. Anybody use one?

I am using one, like it a lot as I use the small set, it saves gas and a lot of time adjusting the torch. I also use the DHC and a regular small torch. Love the DHC.

I have never used one for cutting but I have welded with one, alot easier to hold than a torch body with welding tip. I would just get a good harris, made in poland or ireland not china like the ones at lowes.

Picked one up at a flea market for......... $10.00. That's not a typo.

It was in this pink box everyone was walking past. Didn't even try to haggle. I knew what it was and what they cost. Have yet to try it out. I got one though.

Sarel, do you find that switch sooty at all? When I had one along with the dillon, I found that thing would give off an awfull lot of Acethelene sooot. Back in school they used to tell us not to breath it as it was a carcerogin when not fully cumbusted....

Good score! Looks like you have the complete kit there. Exept for the hand sheild for when you use the torch for cutting

I bought the kit at an event we were attending back in early 80's for I think $250. I've been using it instead of my Victor setup ever since for any gas work, BUT I usually use the mig or tig now which I didn't own back then. No problems with it. Last project I used it on was repairing some old license plates before repainting. Works great on thin sheet metal.

Like most things it has good points and bad points, if you learn to use it and use it often it can do excellent cutting and welding. Yes I have multiple torches, I was in the hvac field did a lot of sil-phos brazing, had a hell of a time welding steel, henrob made it easy to weld sheet metal, and cast iron, and aluminum with a little practice. The operator is a bigger variable than the differences in torches. But I have yet to see anyone cut a nut off a stud or bolt with out damaging the threads with anything other than a henrob. (henrob, aviator, craftsman, forgetting one????) tt

I have a set of craftsman ( Harris/ victor) . Whatever I buy I'm going to get the shutoff,relight valve. Their about 140.00
I've used the easy grind mig wire in my welder but it is still to hard to hammer much.
