Picked up this vintage Henry L Hanson Co ACE Tap and Die Set and am trying to establish age and Set No.? I've searched google and been unable to find a set similar in size. The wood case measures approx 24" x 10". Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There may have been an existing discussion on Ace, and how the local Ace hardware wouldn't warranty it.

You can also search the forum for

Ace tap

And find a few other threads that may be of interest

^ you can't do that because the search function here on GJ doesn't see 3-character words. you have to go to Google and include "garagejournal.com" in the search string.

Looks like 1940's or 1950's to me. Hanson was the OEM for Blue-Point, there are a few Ace and Blue-Point sets made by Ace on the 'Tap and Die' thread, including one of mine. One exactly like yours has been posted there and it doesn't have any data in the Set No. and Thread fields of the decal, either.

?? Maybe I don't know what you mean by "see" in this context, 4.c, but the GJ search function is most definitely capable of searching GJ for threads containing the word "Ace" and other three-character words.

Can anyone show the patent date for the introduction of the adjustable die stock holders?

Bizarre, that musta changed, cuz my two three letter words generated relevant content. I didn't even think of that point.

You're correct, it didn't before. But give it a whirl.

Just don't think about it maybe then it'll work
