Found this little gem. Has a band down low with two ball detents to hold bolt/nut ect. Thought it was for automotive use where you wouldn't want to drop. 3/4" 3/8 drive. Anyone else see these or similar?

Thanks to AA the cross-hatched style can be estimated as 1944-1953. Wondering if this type of socket is used today for any automotive applications? Looks to be quite handy.

I have one of those also, not sure what its application was. There is a similar socket in the 1966 Herbrand catalog found on page 6. Part Number J-624, I am curious as to what the "C" indicated and its application.
