Anything is possible, but if that's the case ,making a knock off really makes zero Business sense.

Go to the effort and expense, of reverse engineering, building massive amounts of tooling, plus, building a factory - to make a clone of what is basically a "who gives a ****" sub $400 China made table saw, just so harbor freight can "beat" it and sell for 75 bucks less, what is likely a limited number of them in their stores.

Just makes no sense, at least to me. I just don't see rich people thinking that way.

Does Dewalt have their own factories in China or just contract with a manufacturer there? Just curious since I really don't know

FWIW the DeWalt is actually made in Taiwan, not China. And I have no idea if it's from a DeWalt facility or contracted - I would assume DeWalt because every other DW tool I've seen or owned is not a knock off or clone or copy of anything else.

Regardless of COO, which is really a lot less relevant than a lot of posters want it to be, you can't argue the quality of the DeWalt saw. There are over 1,000 reviews combined between Amazon and Home Depot, and both sources have an average user rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. You can't fake or copy your way to that level of customer satisfaction.

And I would say from a marketing perspective HF is trying to break into that premium/name brand market with these Hercules tools. Similar to how a car company like Hyundai will make the Genesis sedan and price it just below a BMW or Merc to try and break into the premium car market. It doesn't mean the quality or value is there.

Do you really think the parts are interchabeabe? Not likely. And something doesn't have to beat to **** before needing a part. Tools can get damaged in use. If you buy an extended warranty you lose the cost advantage. If you are a throw-away tool guy that is your choice but it doesn't work for everybody. If you don't think spares are available, check a site like eReplacements. You'll never find an HF brand there.

I can't tell for sure, by looking at the pictures, but by looking at the pictures I think some of them might.

Personally, if I was going to the trouble to make a clone of something, i'd probably just make most everything exactly the same.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a near exact knock off of the Dewalt. If you take a look at all of the Hercules tools, corded and cordless, they look identical to the Dewalt counterpart they’re “beating”.

If they are the same, I don’t know, I kinda like blue better than yellow [emoji23]

Looks can be misleading.

Such ignorance in this thread.

You really think two items are the same quality based on a biased comparison by a supplier selling the brand.

Till you take them both apart down to the motor stator to compare insulation quality, one really can't make an assumption that the HF brand is better value.

AVE already compared the Hercules drill and it failed miserably in solid state component quality and battery integrity. Full blown teardown compared to Milwaukee.

I fully believe you get exactly what you pay for in this competitive, online connected, global marketplace.

Why should Sir Eric, the Harbor Freight Master bother to clone a well respected table saw??? The Asian manufacturers are the masters of cloning, copycatting, and patent heisting. Their short cutting and cheapening skills will result in an assortment of products that USA retailers can have labeled as theirs and toot their horn over. Eric only has to visit China plant number 1 thru 1000 and choose His favorite deal and sign the order.

This is My theory, but it will likely get stolen and copycatted like the China tools.

Let me find that page again.

My favorite is when they have multiple different priced coupons on the same item in the same magazine.

Too funny

Just as an FYI the new catalog has a lot of "special" percentage off coupons (along with the ever changing regular coupons they always give out) 25% off apache case, 20% off Holt (that's a new one) lube tools, 15% of Jupiter invertors, 10% on Vulcan welders, 10% off Bauer batteries, $5 off Hercules Tool bags (#63637 compare to Dewalt)

The two grinder if you are referring to is different... Not sure item number and all... one is a paddle switch, the other one is a regular switch. and I don't own neither....

It's the scheme/scam they are running... pretty sure this is something their marketing research have done and expect to do....psychology part of luring the cheapskate mentality to the store...and this have nothing to do with their price/value of the product... pretty good strategy if you asked me.

Many major brands do this.. Milwaukee included.. its not a HF “scam”

They are marketing the tool as competitor. The higher price speaks for the improved quality, and establishes the name. Price drop comes in future - now its a “deal”.. its no different than going to a clothing “outlet” store - where everything is always on sale.

Do you really think someone BUILT a factory to make that saw?? Or is it likely they order parts from a dozen different suppliers, and assemble the thing like everyone else does?

No not specifically. This was months ago. Front coupon the 44 was 399 but in the back a coupon had it for 4 something .

Not specifically that jack, but it would fit in this theory.. The parts store branded tools I mentioned in post #28 play a bit more humorous role. The same supplier manufactures tools for the parts store brand, as well as Harbor Freight. Comparisons at a tool show mentioned these two lines as identical except for the Icon name on one, and the store branded name on the other. The local parts store claims their store brand is making ratchets and sockets for Snap-on, and Snap-on is making combination wrenches for them.

Actually, I look forward to the Icon line at Harbor Freight. There is no way in hell I want any for myself;; but when the parts store brand is mentioned locally;; I can have the satisfaction of mentioning the "same thing" can be bought in the Icon line at Harbor Freight. And the Merry Go Round keeps spinning as Harbor Freight continues to use their bull **** advertising tactics.

I enjoy visiting Harbor Freight to browse and buy certain tools. They sell some cut rate products; but some of their things are good enough for some of My uses.
The local parts store??? I will stay away; as they attempted to flat out lie to Me three different times regarding tools alone.

Harbor freight and their names:: Hercules should be a engine crane!!! dang fools

There is another thread here on the very same comparison. It links to a video review by a guy with a bear head and blue outfit that calls himself Bearcules. I know it sounds incredibly stupid and that he must be in the bag for HF but it it is actually a very good comparison test and he points out the pros and cons of both saws. He is clearly an experienced wood worker. The Herc. has a bigger table, easy release riving knife, arbor lock and comes with a better blade. It will NOT accept dado blades. The DeW. Has a better fence, easier to read scale and a miter gauge that is less prone to binding. No clear winner. DeW. is only 50 bucks more Lots of good info. Watch the video.

The hf could be equal or better in every way - and people will always find something to knock.. the real question is, will both deliever what most people need from a portable bench top saw. If the answer is yes - then give credit where credit is due.. everyone loved calling hf a bunch of cheap **** - then they release products which are obviously not. Reconcile ..

With what happened to me with a HF chainsaw's trigger that kept it on when not even squeezing the trigger, I vowed myself to never buy something from HF that can kill you.
