Those amish have a pretty nice crane there. I thought they were supposed to be doing it the hard way :)

The last few amish folks I met were all watching the GPS on their smart phones when they got out of their brand new black minivan. I sure hope they remember how to make the worlds best pie and ice cream...

Beautiful build!

Looks great! Beautiful setting as well!

How tall are your sidewalls? What color will your siding and roof be?

I'm in the process of planning and quoting a 36x64 structure to replace a barn we had to take down on our property. It'll be good to see yours progress.

Sidewalls are 14'. Siding will be T111 painted red like the bank barn in the pic. Roof will match other buildings, 30 yr shingles.

How about a few other shots of the property along with the Bank Barn? I like the peaceful serene setting around there:thumbup:

Do you have any horses or do you keep everything mowed up because it looks really great. And is the gray building the house or a portion of the house or is the house located somewhere else?

I'm guessing Mennonites not Amish. They stray more to the modern stuff unlike the Amish.

That's a huge bldg, I think I could live in that thing.

Like Kevin said, more pics of that bank barn.

A barn generally built in the side of a hill, it leaves a "bank" to acess the main floor of the barn. It also creates more storage underneath and accessed on the backside, generally used for animals.

We have a rather large community of Amish north of me. Pennsylvania Amish. They have drivers that take them to the site, but they will run modern equipment as long as it is ran by diesel, i.e. dozers, skidsteers, backhoes. They won't use electricity but use generators ran by diesel, and they won't drive on the road other than their buggies. I think they are transitioning over to a few gas ran pieces of equipment though. One Amish guy has a very lucrative mower business and small engine repair. He has a rather huge building all fluorescent lights and a cash register but it is all ran by generator. He sells weed eaters, chainsaws, powerwashers, pushmowers and Grasshopper Zero Turns. I've seen him moving around the ZT's before. But if on the road he is in his buggy or has a driver.

Nice looking building, I have a few questions...
1. How tall are the sidewalls?

2. What is the pitch of the roof and the width of the attic?

3. Are your attic trusses rated for 40lbs/ sf?

I am looking for an amish crew that I can hire directly for my upcoming project. Did you buy the materials and then pay the crew's daily rate or did they charge you a lump sum.

Thanks for posting your photos and showing us the progress.

Tractor and mowing equipment are kept in the upper part of the bank barn. Lower barn has a double and single horse stall and a tack room. We are getting 2 mini donkeys next week. It is an 18 acre property with a 2 acre lake. The property used to be a dahlia farm, it also has its own gas well!! The smaller building close to the bank barn is a heated workshop.

Sidewalls are 14'. Roof pitch is 8/12. Attic room is 16x80 with 8' sidewalls. Carter lumber put the package and labor together.

I like the proportions - tall side walls and 8/12 pitch look great. Curious to know why you chose T-111 for the siding vs metal? Cost, aesthetics or ?

Again, beautiful property and setting!

We have some close to here also, both Amish and Mennonites. It's amazing what they will do now as compared to 25 years ago. I think they will do what ever "works" for them and what they can make money at. My parents have a quilting machine and have done some stuff for them. A few times, Mom has hauled a few of them in her van, and let the father use her cell phone. . . .imagine that !:bounce:

This is the same style I want my next building to be....but just 30x50. Is there going to be an actual peak or will the top be flat as it currently is at the top of the truss?

oh yeah...awesome build!! I am jealous of all the room to say the least.

Looking forward to see it finished up. Are you planning to finish the inside off of both the bottom and top floors? What is the plan for heat? heated slab ? forced?

again...awesome!!

What did they do where one piece of T1-11 is sitting on the other to insure water does not get in between? Do they have a piece of "Z" flashing or just caulk the seam?

Thanks. Carter Lumber used their amish crew. They put up the basic shell and a contractor friend handled the rest.
