So this morning just a few minutes after dawn I hear some noises outside. To my surprise the drywall guys are unloading a pile of board so they can rock and roll. Well, hold on boys, the last of the spray foam needs to be done first. True to his word the insulation guy shows up about 1/2 an hour later and proceeds to git er done. Just after lunch the drywall hangers show up and a few hours later.............tah dah! We're ready for the tape and mud crew. Meanwhile, on the outside of the building the stucco crew continues setting their lath to get ready to lay down the scratch coat. They didn't quite finish today so looks like Friday we'll be ready to go on the exterior finish stuff. Next week could be another good week. All in all, good progress I'd say..................

I just saw a documentary about the foam insulation. It was a little scary. If the installer puts it in wrong, it doesn't cure properly. Giving off a "fishy" AND toxic odor. Putting it on "wrong" usually means applying one super thick layer all at once instead of two lighter layers and allowing them to cure individually. The trouble seemed mostly in areas where there was extreme cold and the foam was over 12 inches thick in attic spaces and under houses.
Being in Texas, y,all will most likely NOT have any issues. But, I figured you ought to know. SOOO... if the garage starts smelling like fish, and you haven't got any tackle...

Thanks for the concern Dave. Like just about any product there are always chances for wrong to be done. I used this same guy a year ago to do the space above the garage attached to the house and no fish smell, so I think we're okay.

While these pics don't look appreciably different than the last batch we've actually made pretty good progress all things considered. The second coat of taping mud got applied then sanded and texture coat on the drywall got shot yesterday, some material for another part of the house got delivered, and then today the stucco guys got the finish coat laid down so we'll be ready for color in a few days. The schedule is going into a small bog down period as getting sub schedules to line up is getting less flexible with fewer steps to juggle. Probably won't have much to show again until Friday or even next Monday.

It’s been awhile since the last update. Between an anticipated slowdown in scheduling, a glitch with the drywall texturing, and my going off to a 50 year reunion of my old Vietnam flying outfit I haven’t been able to post up.
While some of the events completed don’t make for exciting pictures, a good number of items are on the list of accomplishments. The drywall got textured (with a small glitch causing a couple day delay), primed and then painted. While the paint crew was on site they also got the underside of the man door overhang stained along with the columns. As a pleasant surprise, the owner of the painting company asked if I enjoyed tamales. After I told him I’m a tamale-holic he gave me a dozen homemade chicken tamales with a delicious green chili sauce. Yummmmm mmmmeeeeeee! While they were doing their thing, another crew dug the hole for the footing that will serve the wall that will visually connect the garage to the house. Concrete was poured and the footing is done. Meanwhile the new garage doors, and the one being transferred from the attached garage, were installed. Also the stucco got its finish coat of final color in prep for the hanging of the stone on the lower portion of the walls and under the gables. While I was away the electrical was hooked up and activated, the utility sink with local heater installed, and the rock work began.
All things considered, we’re moving along pretty well despite a couple little delays.

The horrible body counts numbers, the pictures of the wounded civilians with bandages all over them, men,women, children, missing limbs. The whole thing was a cluster. And now? Rather pointless and a waste of lives.
I was thankfully too young to be drafted when we got out and missed the whole thing. But watching my friends older brothers who served, come back so changed and mentally and emotionally damaged, it still leaves marks on everyones lives. My father in law just turned 90 and served 3 or 4 tours with artillery units. My brother in law, Art Terronez, was talking with one of his fellow unit members about being the last 2 original guys when a "charly" grenade sent them both back to the states. Art lost sight in one eye and it was recently removed as it finally died altogether.

Back on topic, that is one hell of a nice garage. And being a contractor I can say the gods of the construction industry have been kind to you indeed. 2 months and nearly finished is basically unheard of.

When I drive down to Austin for the Lone Star Roundup I usually stay ant the Holiday Inn in Salado. If I get there early enough I shop the junk stores on the East side of the highway. When the sun is hanging low in the West I head on down to http://johnnyssteaksandbbq.com/ for a chunk of rare beef and a cold one or two. In the morning I eat a leisurely breakfast and then I head out through the countryside to the Meathead's BBQ.
Good news for you is that you can commute to the Roundup. If you have never been prepare yourself for something uniquely Texas.

Yeah, I've got a good general who has a good relationship with his subs, and I tend to push a schedule review each day to make sure we're all on the same page expectation wise.
We've hung on some of the same forums over the years so I am familiar with you. We also have similar tastes in hot rods and are ex-Californians so you're more than welcome.

We’re pretty much in the home stretch on this one. The past couple weeks have seen many of the detail items come to completion.
Weekend before last I epoxy coated the floor which was followed by vinyl base material being laid on. That pretty much got the interior to the point of being able to begin moving stuff in. I’m transferring cabinets/benches from the attached garages so there’s the whole thing of disassembly, reassembly…………just takes time. Well, that and unload all the junk that was on shelves and in drawers and shuttle that too. Anyway, I’ll be awhile completing all that.
The other inside item that got done was the mini-split heat pump, so comfort should be easy.
On the outside, the stone guys finished up the window ledges and post caps, and got the connecting wall built between the new building and the existing house. The gate is being built currently and is probably about 10 days out. The correct man door got installed and painted. And the final stucco color got applied. Gutters will be the last thing outside and are scheduled for the 25th. Well, maybe the light fixtures on the front will be last……..haven’t gotten the eta on them yet.
The dirt guy came back and hauled off all the construction debris that didn’t go in the dumpster and set grade for drainage and spread a bit of top soil. The landscape guys are supposed to be in next week to rework the sprinklers for the lawn and planter areas as well as lay some sod and planter boarders.
One of the things I haven’t made much mention of, since it’s not exactly garage, is that we converted the third stall of the attached garage into a media room. The previous owner had halfway converted it while leaving the garage door. That meant that it wouldn’t be appraised as living space, just garage, even though the floor was modified in a way that made it not very user friendly as garage space. So we decided to take it the full way, closed off the door, covered it with stone, put in a window, and today the drywall work is in process. Hopefully next week the woodwork and flooring will get done and we’ll be almost done in there as well.
That’s pretty much it. I’ll probably be doing one last posting at full completion with a wide angle shot to show how it ties in with the overall style of the house. Not sure when that will be, but would guess somewhere around month end or so. Well, that, and the ’32 sedan is scheduled to be released from paint jail on 11/4 so might just include that in a pic too.

You're close Dave. In about the middle of the picture with all the junk stacked on the floor are some white cabinets with grey doors (similar to the ones along the back wall in style), those are the overheads for that set. The bench to the right near the back will get a board though, probably this weekend.
Well, the garage is pretty much a wrap. A bunch of little things got accomplished in the past couple weeks and quite frankly most of that stuff won't change how a picture would look. One last significant item is left, the gate in the wall. Supposedly it's at the powder coater this week so should go in next week. But for Dave I'll post a pic of some peg board behind the benches......

My '32 sedan project got delivered from paint jail and is nested in it's slot for final work on suspension and drive train and interior. Plenty to do, but it will be done in relative comfort. Sorry to jump in here. The upper wall cabinets with the platinum doors and white cabinets are Pro 3.0 series from NewAge, as are the base cabinets. The cabinets on the other wall are the older NewAge Pro cabinets with beige doors. They don't make beige anymore.
dittle... gave you the accurate answer, for more on these in particular here's a link to my review thread when I initially installed them in my attached garage last year: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341000 I transferred them to the new building, the installation was just as easy, and again I was able to do it by myself using some cheats learned over years of doing stuff.
Not to take a pot shot at Gladiator, but these cabinets are in a different league. I was at Sam's Club today and happened to look at some Gladiator stuff. It would be serviceable in a light duty environment, which might be a majority of home owners, but for the serious gear head who appreciates quality and durability the NewAge stuff is likely to be more satisfying.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to check them out. Wall hung cabinets over my workbenches are the last piece of the puzzle in my new shop and I just haven't seen anything that excites me yet, but these look appealing from the pictures.

Subscribed!!!..... just kidding. Nice job with the build and updates Uncle Bob, it really turned out nice. I like the little porch over the side door and especially that wall to give you some privacy to sit and enjoy your domain.
Due to poor planning on my part I didn't design an attic lift into the original build, only a fold down ladder. Well, at my age a lift is a better option so I retrofitted one and did a review in another posting here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7666807#post7666807
