TireTracks,

The bench in my garage is built from old kitchen cabinets. The drawer I added has ball-bearing slides, but the rest have wooden runners. Some of the drawers have strips of the old, stiff linoleum glued to their bottom edges where they meet their respective runners. The drawers slide remarkably easy. Maybe you could find something similar to put on the drawers or runners to cut down on friction.

I work for one of the few American made furniture companies left, that still makes all our stuff in this country. We still use wooden drawer guides on some of our suites. We also have suites with the ball bearing glides.

We just use parafin wax ( Canning jar wax) to make the wooden drawer glides slide smoother.

Canning wax is added to my shopping list. :) Thanks, Breeze!

They sell canning wax at all my local grocery stores. I keep a box on hand at all times. Its great for melting into a stubborn bolt/nut to loosen it up.

My grandpa, who was an avid wood worker, always had bars laying around the shop too.

...and you can run a wood screw over it (the wax) and it drives into the wood SOOOO much easier...
