This is my favorite front-page post of all time. I am obsessed with old barns. Thanks for bringing this company to my attention; I am going to go and browse their website.

I've helped a buddy of mine relocate barns..and build new timber frame buildings.....I love them too.....we moved a 40*80 barn to my sisters place afew yrs ago...

the crew...I'm in the green..this building took us 7 days to get wrapped up...the town started their town hall the same day, with prefabbed walls, and a crew of more than three guys and by the time we were done, their roof was just tar papered....not bad, eh?

If you venture up to Michigan, put the Gilmore museum on your list of places to see. Great Barns filled with great cars and a variety of events thru the year to satisfy the tastes of most any gearhead.

Nice job ebstein! How did you deal with the over lapping rafters at the ridge? Looks
as thought the frame of the old barn was in exceptional shape. Cudos on saving a
great barn.

thanks guys....that was an assbuster of a week, but a true labor of love....I get to see it at least once a week, we get together all the time...

the ridge plumb cuts were made with a 12" chain saw...all cuts on that barn exept the birds mouth, and siding were made with that saw mostly...all original dowels where drilled out, and replaced with new ones...swinging a 5lb hammer for a week will make a man outta ya quick.......

What is the approximate cost per sq. ft for one of these barn moves/restos?

I love old barns as well. This one is my favorite, it belongs to a friend of mine. The driveway to the house goes right through the middle of the barn. The original owner of the farm was a stone mason, and he built the whole thing himself over a number of years, I believe it was finished in about 1880. This is a working farm, so the barn is still in use.

if I'm not mistaking, my brother in law paid around 45000-50000$ for that barn..from excavating to the lightning rods..labor was almost free..


I believe my buddy charges 25-40$/sq. ft on regualar jobs...and I'm sure that that price for my b.i.l. was with a "good guy discount"...we put one up that was 2/3 that size and it was 120,000...butthat also had some infloor heating, and a 60' lean to....

This is the big barn on our place. Its kind of a hybrid stick frame/ timber construction. I've never seen anything like it. I figure it to be about 60 years old. It needs some refreshing for sure.

$25-40 per sq. ft doesn't sound too bad at all.

I have 16 acres here, and two barns. One day, I'd like to have another barn on the property. Maybe if my Powerball numbers come up.
