What would be a good thermostat for slab hydronic heat in a pole barn, should I get one with a slab temperature sensor? I probably need a programmable type for delay when opening overhead door also.
The best ones work outside temperature -- they set the temperature of the water. Look up "outdoor reset" .
I have a slab temp sensor in one of my rooms to maintain a warm floor -- not enough to heat the room -- I have supplemental for that -- I just don't want it cold. Slab sensors ar normally to keep the slab from getting too hot.
You can also get a thermostats for radiant that looks just like a normal one -- it has a longer delay to compensate for the slab mass.
Opening a garaged door and closing it will not have any effect on the temp -- it will quickly cover.
