Heuer Vise

I recently pulled the trigger on a new vise. My old Craftsman 51856 has been 'adequate' for years, but I thought I'd move up in the vise world.

So I ordered a Heuer 140mm with replaceable jaws, a rotary table, and a set of mag jaws from our own Jens Putzier.

First off, I am so impressed by the way the vise and accessories were packaged! I have never received a package so well put together in all my life and I buy a whole lot of stuff off the 'Net.


I even saved some of the packing to use later...

Secondly, this thing is a beast (compared to my C-man). Very impressed with the heft, quality, and general feel of the tool. I haven't used it or mounted it yet (waiting on a mount to go with my Strong Hands Rhino cart), but I'm sure it will be perfect for my use.

I just need to brush up on my Deutsch to know what's in those two bottles...

(I just happen to be starting a Deutsch class for a European trip in 2025...)

My memory is getting worse these days, but I seem to recall a video from the folks at fireball and your vise held up very good until the very end when it broke under extreme load. looks like you picked a winner!

Yeah, I saw that video and one other one. I have no plans to ever subject any of my tools to that kind of abuse, so I think I'll be fine...

I think the Heuer vices are one of the better value options out there at the moment. I can’t think of anything new that’s of better quality for similar money.

A friend here in the U.K. bought one. We have vast numbers of used Record Vices here, at prices our vice collecting American cousins can only dream of, but my friend didn’t want to get involved in refurbishing, so went for the Heuer.

The ready availability of accessories is another plus for the Heuer.

I seem to remember my friends vice came with bottles of oil and grease, which were labelled with the equivalent of “Allpurposegrease” etc - which looks like a harder translation than it is!

You are very welcome. The Haribo go into the owner and the set with the two bottles are the care for the vise. Sorry, I did not see that the instructions are in German only. Normally you don't need them before your German is good enough to read them.

Thank you. I was referring just to the labels on the bottles - I haven’t actually opened the maintenance kit yet to read the instructions.

A local guy offered that same model vise, new in box, for $100 so I grabbed it. I already had the similar Ridgid F-50 and thought it would be an upgrade---I ended up keeping the Ridgid. The Heuer seemed less "rigid".
