New girl here. East Texas. Going to build a steel building for cheap housing. I know it will be hot, but here to learn everything I can about keeping the darned thing at a tolerable temperature during the hot months. I can always sleep outside, if need be.

Welcome. You can always build an apartment inside. I know of plenty of people that bought land and built a 40x60 and built an apartment in one half and stored building materials for the house in the other half, then gutted the apartment out leaving the kitchenette and the bathroom.

Hi.

That's kind of what the scene is going to be like, at least for a few months. Going to build a mezzanine, so I can have two bedrooms downstairs, and a large single room on top of them. I'm a welder so the framing will probably be steel. Would love to use wood, but it doesn't seem wise for the dimensions I've chosen.

Unfortunately, I think that's pretty much all the solar power I can afford to take advantage of. But it will take a big bite out of the electricity bill, anyways.
