Hey gang....just found this site from a search online with a related thread and well, thought I'd join up and hopefully learn a lot in the process.
A bit about me...I'm a medically retired US Marine with a little over 14 years of Active Duty service before they retired me. I'm officially disabled and don't really do a whole lot now besides fighting the VA tooth, nail, and claw (call it a hobby
). I was in from May 93' with a retirement date of July 1 2007 and retired out of CLR-2 Camp Lejeune, NC.
I'm planning on attending the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (UTI) in Orlando Florida soon when the brain-children at the VA allow these types of programs to be eligible for the new Post 9/11 GI Bill.
While I'm in attendance at MMI, I plan to fully utilize the various tool discounts by the vendors, though I've pretty much got my Snap-On sets picked out for what I want to purchase (starting out with the US Set #2) as that will be the nucleus of everything else to build upon.
I'm going to specialize in the early and late model Harley Davidson Motorcycle program there.
When I finish, I'm planning on buying a lift, air compressor, and just work on my bike and those of my buddies in my endless spare time during the days...plan on building a few "kit" bikes a year for resale, and eventually a trike kit for the wife (thinkin a Dyna).
I have no aspirations or desire to work again, especially as a professional tech in a Harley dealership. Just want the knowledge for myself to work on my bike and save my buddies some $$ on theirs...and work on my terms in the comfort of my own home garage.
