Hey guys I've been a long time lurker here and now want to slowly start actually participating here in this forum. This community seems amazing and there's a lot that I want to know about and a lot that all of you know. Hopefully you all give me the opportunity to ask questions, learn, and hopefully after who knows how many years return that favor to somebody else (even if it's just my own children if and when I have them).
I've had a garage my entire life up until very recently and while I had that space for me to play around in I've dabbled in simple woodwork and I've learned a lot about wrenching on motors in general. Most recently that garage (and house) has been emptied and rented out to another family and in the process I had to give up/sell many of my tools.
I never realized how important those tools were and the passion that I had for them until that moment. Since then I've been looking all over the place at different tool brands to figure out what I would want my dream shop to be.... the only problem is that I now live in a small 600 sqft apartment in Washington DC and I foresee myself living in a small space like this without a garage for several more years from hereon.
My current idea is to start with small project such as tool restorations since I only need a small set of hand tools and very little space... the problem for me is that eBay is too damn expensive to make it worth it and craigslist is pretty dry here in the Washington DC metro area. My hope is to get in touch with people that have similar interests on here and get some guidance on how I can start finding tools and learning techniques from them to properly restore the tool to it's previous glory.
Even with that said, I'm still trying to figure out how to make room for this hobby of mine (creating things/collecting tools) in a small space and hopefully I'll figure it out soon. I've been doing some planning and giving a corner of my 1 bedroom apartment the funny eye for now, but I'm not sure my wife likes the idea of littering a corner of our apartment with a workbench and some tools
. Until then I'm open to any suggestions from anybody who wants to drop by and say hello.
Thanks for letting me be part of this community and I look forward to actually participating!
