I have a Trane heat pump in my house that was installed in 1994 when I built my house. The a/c is not working. The red light for emergency heat is coming on when the t-stat is in the cooling mode...really weird I think. What could be the problem? Cheap fix I hope as I am on disability and unable to work right now. Any clues or ideas? Thanks...redbee

Redbee the sad truth is you have stumped me :D. I will admit to having a fried brain been running 12-18 a day for 2 weeks plus straight including weekends . The E heat light throws me . With this said the first 2 places I would look would be the capacitor and freon levels . Then I would go inside and start diagnosing with my meter on the 24Volt side of the system .
