Ok, I am wondering where in the USA people have actually found and bought the new style of HF 13 drawer roll cab and/or the side boxes for it.

I went to the HF in Roseville, CA today, driving my truck and towing a trailer, fully intending to buy three (3) roll cabs, two side drawer and one side cabinet add-ons.

I talked with the store manager, and asked him if he was aware that US General had changed the style some months ago, and asked if the floor model was just old stock, since it was the old style.

He told me in no uncertain terms that there was no change in the boxes, and that he was not going to open or cut holes in the packaging on the units he had in stock, just so I could be sure what I was buying.

I very nicely explained to him that I simply wanted to make sure that all units were going to be the new style, so they would all match, and that I didn't want to buy the old style units because additional purchases would be less likely to match.

I made it clear that I was ready to buy, and also ready to walk away if I could not verify what I was buying. He elected to let a nearly $2000 purchase walk away.

He said I would have to buy them, take them home, open them, and then if they were "defective" I could return them, but that I could not return them because I didn't like the style.

Now I need to know where in the country there is a HF that stocks the new style, so I can either go there and buy them, or call them and try to order from them.

If you know of a HF store that has the new style in stock, please let me know. Maybe they don't exist on the west coast?

Sorry I cannot help you on locations in your area, as I am in Ohio. I purchased 4 of these cabinets about 3 months ago, and they were all the newer style, so I would think that most stores would be stocking the newer style by now.

Also, this is directly from the HF web site.....

"100% Satisfaction Guarantee
If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with any item purchased from Harbor Freight Tools, you may return the insured product within 30 days for a full refund or replacement, whichever you prefer. Shipping and handling costs are non-refundable. Please insure your item for shipment to us. Items ordered via Internet or catalog cannot be returned to a retail store."

I would have told the @sshat manager to load em' up, then I would have tore the boxes open right in the parking lot, and told him under no uncertain terms that I would be back in the store within 5 minutes to process the return if they were the old style. Plain and simple, I am not 100% satisfied, and I would be well within the 30 day limit.

So far, all confirmed new style boxes are East of the Mississippi.
Or, in the case of Minneapolis, just barely to the West of it.

Has anybody further West seen them?

The older ones have a two piece drawer front, with the handle down about an inch from the top of the drawer, where the two pieces meet in a seam that juts forward from the drawer front.

The newer style has a single-piece drawer front, with the top edge folded over and down to form a handle at the top edge of the drawer. There are pictures somewhere here on GJ, but I am not having any luck with search trying to find them.

please tell us the difference between the new style and the old style. Is this the change from the glossy red paint to the matte finish paint? Or is a handle on the drawers like mentioned above?

(oops, new info posted above, thanks. So the change in paint has nothing to do with new vs old style?)

is photo below a new one? (It was purchased 1 week ago)

Thanks for the pic, tomd.
I will take that with me to the HF stores to see if the staff have seen any like these.

If anyone sees any of these out West, please let me know.

Purchased one yesterday. Same style as the one I bought a year ago with the older drawer type.

I drove out to the other HF in my area at lunch time today. Took my life in my hands, as this one isn't in the best part of town, but it was worth it.
Although the floor model box was the old style (see pic below for old style handle), I convinced a guy that was working to let me go in the back with him, and had him cut a small hole in the cardboard, tear out a little styro-foam, and we could see the front of the drawer on a new one in the crate.

The one in the crate was the new style drawers! I'll have to go back there with my truck next weekend.

Old style drawer:

They have the new styles at stores in Kansas. The guys at two of the stores in my area were willing to cut a small hole in each box (2" x 2") and look in to see what style drawers they have. They had both in stock (old and new).

I would just start buying and have them bring them out. Open them up and if they arent' the right style, send it back or ask for a refund. I returned several pieces once I found out I was getting two different styles. No questions on the return other than "is anything wrong with it."

Cool deal. Guess the other dipshit lost out on a pretty good sale. Are you going to install them all in a row next to each other? Post a pic up once your finished.

This is my first post here, but just had to say that the HF in Colorado Springs (well west of the Mississippi!) has the new style cabinet. Got mine in Jan so they've been here a while.

Actually two runs, one of two roll cabs with a 7-drawer unit between, and the other will be a single roll cab unit with 7-drawer on one side and cabinet on the other. Both runs under 10' workbenches on walls perpendicular to one another (a corner).

In the Santa Rosa, N. CA store, 04-30-11, the floor model had the dull, red "crinkle" paint finish. Employees insisted all units in stock, had same finish.

I don't recall handle style. I think HF went to dull red, to make the NEW $700 roller cabinet, look "better".

He's full of ****. You should've bought them with a credit card, opened them on the sidewalk in front of the store, and if they weren't what you wanted, walked back in and returned them.

There's not a damn thing he could've done about it. You just leave them right there inside the front door of the store and walk away. When your card statement comes, you write a letter explaining that you bought them, weren't satisfied, and didn't even take them home.

Your credit card company would never pay HF for the boxes, nor make you pay for them.
