HF 4 drawer service cart

I have "the little red cart" too. The reason I got the 4 drawer, is because it's a bit larger and the drawers give me storage. The problem I was running into was the top surface of my red cart was getting cluttered with parts from jobs I was working on, but couldn't complete at the same time. I also had spare stuff I just hadn't put somewhere else. Now I have drawers to place parts from "jobs in progress" and still have the top surface available for me to work on something else. I just told my wife today, she can have the two shelf red cart for working in the yard and with plants.

I too am thinking of removing the hinged cover. It would not present any structural issues. The rivets mounting the piano hinge would need to be drilled out. I'm going to leave the top on for now and if it becomes a PITA, then I'll remove it. Can always be reattached.

I am looking at both the 99$ and the 179, with a 20% coupon. I want to know what do you all keep in your service cart, and what goes in your big cabinet? I would think a ratchet set 1/4,3/8 and 1/2. A full set of wrenches etc. What you you not put in a service cart?

I looked at the 4 drawer they had in the store, and purchased the 5 drawer without seeing one. I like the 5 drawer much better, however the 4 drawer would have worked fine.

I have only had it for a couple days and dont have anything in it yet, but i am planning on 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 6 point socket sets, ratches, metric and inch wrenches, select screw drivers and pliers. I also plan on a magnetic paper towel holder, magnetic glove holder, my 2 magnetic work lights, etc. The top of the cart will be empty and used as a "bench" surface while working under the lift.

All my 12 point sockets and larger sockets and such will live in my larger box. When needed they are just a few steps away.

I'm a fan of loading the tools I think I'll need from my big cabinet into the cart, then rolling the cart to where I'm working. Saves me return trips.

Maybe the red 5 drawer I saw in the store wasn't the same as what everyone else has been seeing. I looked them both over and liked the black 4 drawer much better. Walked out with one for $99.

I don't care for the finish on the red cart at all. But beyond that, the aluminum pieces on the drawer pulls weren't attached well and slid off the side of the drawer pull when I went to move the tab over to unlatch the drawer. And i didn't care for those tabs to unlatch the drawers at all.

And when I picked mine up there were still 5 of the 4 drawer carts left at the south Indianapolis store.

Thanks for all the insight here...

After looking at them both, I picked up the black 4 drawer cart. It will address my needs well. I found that the red 5 drawer cart is definately a bit nicer and build a little stronger.

I'm setting mine up with a bunch my sockets and wrenches and common automotive tools. I just have to get my garage done this spring so I can actually use it!

I put it together last night and found the tabs that hold the sliders are missing. So when I pulled the bottom drawer out the sliders came with it and the little ball bearings went everywhere. Have to figure out how keep the sliders from coming out, maybe a screw where the plastic tab should be. Also one of the drawers is missing the liner, I didn't expect the liners for any drawers so no big deal.

That's odd. When I put mine together the bottom drawer was off the slide on the left side. I just slid out the drawer, pushed the slide in and lined it all up and it snapped in to place. Good to go. I'm loving the cart. Especially great to get my air tools and impact sockets in to it since I don't have room in my CMan box for them.

The five drawer version is great. Better quality than anything you could hope to by at Sears.

Have to agree with that. The 4 and 5 drawer are both better quality than this:

Only thing better than is the griplatch drawers which I like a lot. Other than that I spent $100 on the harbor freight cart which lets me buy another $250 worth of US made tools, and I feel the cart is a better product.

Picked up the 4 drawer black cart and it is working out fairly well so far. I immediately took the lid off which made the cart much more user friendly in my home shop environment. I'll put a few of my frequent use tools in the cart then load whatever additional tools are necessary for the specific job out of the big roll-around.

Does anyone have a PDF of the coupon for the $99 4 drawer cart? The link at the top of this thread now takes you to a different set of coupons.

So I continue to be happy with the black 4 drawer cart. Especially at the sale price of $99. Here are a few pictures. Don't really have it sorted out for the top drawers yet because I don't have my workbench finished.

And you can see my one lonely PL\/MB wrench in the top of the cart. :D

I had to use a coupon to get the 99.99 price for the 4 drawer. I still think it would have been a good deal if I had only gotten the 149.99 sale price and used a 20% off coupon to get it at 120.

I lost my $99.00 coupon and can't find the online coupon for it anymore. Does anyone have a link to a current one? Thanks!

The Vernon, CT store now has 3 left in stock. I just went and picked one up. It rang up $99.99, then they had to adjust it to 89.99 for some reason.

Thanks for posting that link, I missed the $99 sale, and was considering just using the 20% off the $149 sale price

hmmm. I guess they decided to change it. It was $89 earlier today, guess they figured out the mistake. $99 is still a great deal but it looks like in the top of that link the red one is going on sale soon for !59 with 20% coupon that will make it less than $130! that is the one I want!

I sent the coupon to my buddy last night and he saw it as $99, while I saw it as $89 at the same time.. I just sent him a screenshot of mine so he could use it as $89.

I just looked, still says $89 for me

His cookies have not been cleared out. As soon as you clear your cookies the page reload will show $99. So the link he sends will be the same as above.

Actually, that's not it.. I think its like a regional thing.. I am in CT, and my buddy is in CA. I just opened the above link on another computer here that hasn't been to the site previously, and it still shows $89 for me.

thanks, Cryptic. Maybe it is a coastal thing- I am over here in Oregon, but HF sent me that coupon in my email on Monday, and it definitely was $89... on Monday. Now it is $99. I didn't know they could change an email after it was sent...

Have a chance to get it put together yet? I am still liking the cart after a few weeks. Especially when I was able to spend what I saved on some other tools that I needed. :D

yep, I threw it together last night. It wasn't difficult, but I got thrown for a loop when my socket was real sloppy on a couple bolts. Found out that of the 34 bolts with hex heads, I had 5 that were 13mm, the rest were 14mm. They must have run out and just threw those in.. I'd have rather had those, they were 8.8 instead of the 4.8 like the 14mm's.

I like the cart, matches my toolbox perfectly
