I have the HF 44 box I recently bought. Love it. For the hell of it I put a tape measure on it. It's actually 42 wide. If you include the handle then sure, it'll clear 44 but really? A little misleading.

Yup, it's always been this way. Had a few members try telling me I was wrong, but the actual dimensions are 42" and it's only 44" with the handle.

Other boxes like this are correctly advertised as 42." As such, 42" top boxes (or intermediate drawers) fit onto the 44" HF just fine.

They changed the way they marketed dimensions back in 2010ish. Search apparently doesn't go back far enough find the original thread on it

I have to say this thread is proof that something repeated often enough for long enough eventually destroys the truth.

I bought my roll around a while ago and I swear they used to be called 41" boxes.

I am shocked that harbor fright would mislead any of its customers:wtf:

Besides, many of you guys have been adding inches to things for quite awhile :dunno::bounce::lol:

Not misleading if you read the dimensions. It’s this way on everything anymore. Looking at RV’s you would think the model number would be the same as the length, but none are.

If we're going by this method of measurement, this chest might soon be 72"

Yeah thats what Harbor Freight says but it is a 42" without the handles. It still the best bang for the buck on a homeowner toolbox. It such a good deal I got 2 of them plus 2 side boxes a locker and one top box and still spent less for all that storage then just about every other brand. Total spent was just a little under $1,600.00 with tax and I can not be happier with the choice. A couple inches OH WELL:willy_nil

Ha Ha My HF box is bigger then yours as I have 2 of the HF 44" boxes with a 18" side box bolted to the first 44" box then a 2nd 18" sidebox bolted to the first and the 2nd 44" HF box then a 18" locker bolted to the end of the 2nd HF 44" HF box. So that makes it 142" HF box. HAHAHAHA. :lol_hitti:willy_nil:D

If you read the spec's on the HF Web site, they give the length at 42in. 44inch is just the description if you can fathom that...:dunno:

Oh wow! If you search "44 tool box" on their site, a couple of the "same" boxes will turn up with different part numbers. Under description one will say 18 and one 18 1/2 wide. One says 42 and the other 44 3/4 long. I think shipping weight is different. But both say 14,200 cubic inches of storage. Damn HF
