I checked on what they had in the store and they have a different mounting pattern and are not as wide. I figured so many of the members here are taking theirs off, why not ask...

Measure the casters you actually have, both wheel diameter and total height. Then take a piece of paper and a pencil and make a charcoal rubbing of the mounting holes on the underside of your cabinet. Go to harbor freight and see what fits. I'm 99% positive they'll have something that will work.

If the have the right mounting pattern, but different heights, replace all 4. That's what I did when I converted my craftsman boxes to four rotating casters.

How in the hell have I gone 48 years without thinking to do this!!

I had too, because I linked two bottom carts side by side. The would have been basically immobile otherwise.

I guess I could just take one off the cabinet and go to HF or Tractor Supply, which looks like the easiest route at this point.

I just bought 3 of the 44" boxes and will be removing the casters soon, how quickly do you need a set? If you can wait a couple weeks I'll have a box full of them.

EDIT: I've had a ton of people contact me about these casters, I'm new here and can't even post in the classified section. These won't be coming off for a while so if you're looking for something short term mine will be a while.

Whats a fair price I have a bunch
I'm not really sure, HF doesn't sell anything comparable, it's all either smaller lighter duty poly casters, or larger pneumatic casters. PM a price, I may be interested in a set.
I have my original set that I'm saving for another project. I wanted the same thing, but swapped it out to larger swivel casters all around.

Dan

What did you swap them out for? Any pics or a link to an item? I've found a few options on Amazon that look promising based on size and mounting pattern, I'd love to swap them out to something with more substantial, but also just getting two more to match would be easy as well.

I see, thanks, any chance you have any pictures of the larger swapped casters? I too noticed a few bolts on my casters were loose as well. Tightened them up, but I noticed I had one with a stripped out hole, the other three on that caster are tight, so it's not a biggie, but when I swap out casters I'll probably do as you did and put a different bolt with a nut on the backside.

Can anyone with this 44 inch 13 drawer measure how wide the NARROW set of drawers are?

Sorry just saw this and I am away from my box right now, but the measurements are listed in the pdf manual available on HF's website.

Whytry, do you have a price in mind for a pair of swivel casters shipped? I'd be very interested.

Ironically, I am now in the market for a set of these casters. If anyone is sitting on some, let me know. I really only need two swivels.

Are the casters on the 56" the same as the casters on the 44"? I need too more of the swivel ones for my 56". Come to think of it, I could also use 2 swivel ones for my 5-drawer cart. PM me with answers/offers.

The casters on the 44, 56, and the service carts are all different, based on the weight capacity of each

For those that need it, the part number for the swivel casters is 28234. They aren't on the website, but you can order them over the phone. $15 each.

Hate to resurrect a necro'd thread, but if anyone has a set of the swivel casters from a HF 44" roller box that they'd be willing to let go, I'm in zip 43230. I'd of course pay for shipping and any reasonable price for the casters.

Would these be strong enough (remove from the dolly, mount to box)? http://www.harborfreight.com/movers-dolly-93888.html 1000lbs allegedly. Not sure how have a box reasonably full of tools would be.

Strong enough, maybe. But I wouldn't want to try and move a box that heavy, loaded, on casters that small. And that's 1000 lbs combined capacity, probably. You need your total # of casters x each caster capacity = max load of the box + weight of the box itself.

Good point - 3 inches seems a little short for a box if you intend to move it a decent amount of times. I bet it is 1000lb combined. The weight on the 44" box says 270 unloaded, and I wouldn't think "homeowner stuff" would add up to more than 630lbs. I've been brainstorming a steevo type bench but I'm thinking to put the boxes on casters to allow myself to move as needed for cleaning/painting/etc, and NOT for rolling around a vehicle for usage in that regard.

I needed to lower the height of my HF box so I bought 2" steel casters from Home Depot that have a 150# weight rating each. I've loaded up the box, have rolled it around my garage and they've held up just fine. This is from my review of the box from the HF website:

"I wanted to roll this box under a workbench but it is too high. When I got it I removed the big 6" casters and found some 2" steel casters with a 150lbs load rating at one of the big box stores. Together they will support 600lbs so I think I'm good. If needed I can add 2 more in the middle to up the load rating to 900lbs. The stock casters add 6" of height, so I was able to drop the total height by 4". The 2" casters had different mounting hole locations so I had to drill those. That's a nerve wracking thing to do on a shiny new tool box! It was close but they fit. The steel edging on the box is thick and sturdy. I wish Harbor Freight let reviewers post pictures as I took many and it may have been helpful... "

I've attached a pic of my casters. You can see the holes for the original casters but I had to drill new ones. They are very close to that gap in the frame rail but there was enough room.

I'm sure they'd hold the weight just fine, but personally I would not trust them. I've used these dollies a lot for various things around the garage including to roll around car unibodies that have been stripped of their suspension. For me these dollies are expendable items as the casters always fail. On a smooth surface when evenly weighted they would probably do the trick. But the tolerances are **** so if you're going over uneven or rough surfaces or using for an application where the casters are not evenly weighted then I would expect the casters to fail. When they have failed for me generally what happens is the ball bearings fall out due to the caster being stressed and splitting open the bearing race.

I recently removed the casters for my 44" box (sorry, they are not for sale) and they are massive and very heavy. Night and day difference compared to the small low quality ones on the moving dollies.
