I took one of them off to try to fix a dent in it and thought I'd see what the box looked like with all of them removed. I like it a lot better. I never liked the stupid things anyways as they slide to the sides and the little inserts don't stay in. What do you guys think? I've seen a few people do this when they were repainting or vinyl covering various toolboxes but I don't remember seeing one just plain like this.

I also made a video of it. The last HF Toolbox video got a fair amount of hits on YT. People seem to be searching a lot for modifications to these HF 44s.

I'm contemplating plastidipping the drawers black maybe or doing something else when it gets warmer.

That does look pretty sweet that way. I wiold possibly do s toy are thinking about and do the drawers in black. Just to give it some more color. Or possibly do drawer fronts in black and leave the handles red.

I personally like the aluminum. I thought of painting the box to match my vintage craftsmans.

It has the trim pieces on drawers so it would match

Well I believe the rails are for you to pull on, they have a texture for oily hands
And so you don't wear the painted finish directly.

I may even help the stiffness across the pull area slightly.

Oooh that might be a good idea too. I might try one like that and see how it looks.

I think that looks better not as shiny and without the channel in the middle for the label strip.

I'd take the badge off, too. It looks out of place.

I've toyed with the idea of painting the whole thing CAT yellow and sticking this on it:

Still undecided though.

They are pretttty flilmsy to help structurally but anything is possible I suppose. The texture for gripping could be an issue I suppose but I usually hook under the drawer when I open it so I don't think slipping will be an issue for me.

Looks real good firworks, Im likin it !

Thanks!

I left the rails on mine (56") but threw the inserts right in the garbage. I think yours would look pretty sweet painted like the craftsman.

Yeah, I did same too. No need to label the drawers once you learn where you got stuff. When I repainted my craftsmans I painted them with a red closer to the HFs I have. I just havnt got around to painting the gray on the HFs.

Now that would look cool. You could then paint the trim a contrasting color like black.

Are the drawer pull edges sharp/narrow now? Reminds me of the 70s snap on boxes.

I have two red Caterpillar boxes. Don't know they were thinking.

I have two red Caterpillar boxes. Don't know they were thinking.

They aren't sharp. They are thin but I don't find it uncomfortable at least so far. I'll know better after using it for a few weeks.

I've never repainted a box before so it seems a bit daunting. I might try doing a smaller hand tool box first to get the process down.

I might wait until CAT's outlook is a little better also. I'd feel stupid painting my box CAT yellow and getting let go.

Good ideas though so far.

I hate the trim HF puts on their boxes! I'm not a huge fan of the no-trim look, but it sure beats the **** that came on it!

There's a guy on YouTube that has the pulls painted black & it looks pretty sweet. Plus if you did that they'd still work with the cat theme
Also I think those newer emblems are cheap looking. One of the couple things I liked better about my old black cart vs the current red one
