I have a question for any owners of a Harbor Freight 44" box. If you have some tie down straps, large ones for a vehicle like 2" not the smaller 1" straps, I have a question.

Will the hooks of the straps fit over the handle on the end of the box ? Instead of putting some strap hangers on the wall of my enclosed trailer, I considered using the handle of the tool box. I'll be picking a HF 44 box up this week during the sidewalk sale so I don't have immediate access to one.

Thanks for the help guys.

It doesn't matter. I wouldn't rely on the hook alone. I would loop the end of the strap over the handle and put a slip knot in it. Piece of mind that the hook won't pop off on a hard bump. :)

Take some scraps of seat belt webbing tied into loops (overhand knot is fine, wont come undone). Your handles wont get scratched and the straps are guaranteed to fit.

Edit..
Ive just re-read what you are trying to do. If they don't fit you have a welder, I'm sure you could make a new handle or make a bar to hang on the handle if necessary

I don't understand what you're trying to do. Secure the box, or store the straps? The handles are just under 1 1/4" diameter. The box comes on a skid in a packing crate that isn't going to slide around during the trip from the store, with or without straps.

If you put enough force on it during transport to need straps to hold it in place, it'll rip the handles right off anyhow.

Are you talking about transferring it home or mounting it in the trailer? Why can't you just loop the strap around the handle and hook it back to the strap? Or you can run the strap through/around the handle and run the hook back to the original mounting point where the first hook was secured.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough when I started the thread last night.

Rather than buying some PIT Pal strap hangers like in the attached photo below, I'm considering just using the HF 44 box handle to hang them off of.

In no way was I intending to tie the box down by the handle, it will get bolted in as the project continues.

The handle doesn't come attached if that helps, and if you have room lay it on its back for transport. Lower center of gravity.

The bar is too large to fit the style shown in this picture. The cross bar is about 1in in diameter. As stated, the bar is easily removable and would be very easy to fab something to sit where the handle sits.

If the bar is too large, it's no problem. I will buy one or two of the PitPal strap hangers. Thanks.

Re: HF 44 tool box owners ??

We have some home made tool carts at work and for the handles we just bent threaded rod into large U shapes. Then drilled holes in the box and used two nuts on each side to pinch/secure it to the box. Cheap easy way to make handle or in your case, strap hanger.

Re: HF 44 tool box owners ??

Ok, I took some measurements of some trailer cabinets today and I have another question if somebody would be so kind.

Can a HF 44 tool box owner measure the height on the body of the tool box ? Not from the floor to the top or any measurement involving the casters, just the box itself. I will not be using the casters in my project.

Thanks.

33" in the middle 33.5" at the sides where there is a bit of sheetmetal that sticks above the work surface.

Yep, that's my plan to get one, unless I'm working.

Mr. Bones decided to pull the flier off the table and shred it. Luckily, I had taken a picture of the ad and put a reminder in my phone.
