Lots of info on the box around here, I learned a lot about HF after joining. So much that I will actually buy somethings there now. I don't buy anything without checking the pass/fail thread (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27192), I also like to check the coupon section before I depart for the store as well.

And for those who either can't shell the cash out now, the stores run out, what have you, I have attached a $359 coupon that's good till 4/15/14

Yes. As much as I like my HF 44 Boxes, it is amazing that there is not a GarageJournal subforum on the topic yet. :lol_hitti Along side Sears/Craftsman bashing, COO debates and HF Toolbox discussion there is some wonderful discussion here ;-)

My Harbor Freight is having a Sidewalk Sale this weekend, I am not sure if that cabinet will be on sale for a better deal than that or not, but maybe look into that.

Good Luck.

What is Harbor Freight? Are they some kind of a retail store?

I don't want to give you the "SEARCH" answer, but seriously, I doubt there is a topic on this forum that has been discussed more.

Short answer: You'll never find anything of that quality for the money new. If you're not hung up on COO it's an awesome product for the money. So yes. . . but one or two or three. . .

Thank you all for the info. FYI. I did a search for HF 44" toolbox and found 20 posts with that not in the title. That's why I posted the question.

I'm glad you asked, I'd pass, you can get a much much better box for less money off of craig's list. It might take a little time and effort but it's worth it. If someone offered me that "tool box" for free, I'd pass.

Not so, I bought both a Snap-On and Matco box, both new, both for less money, got used Lista and Vimar cabinets for less money as well but those were slightly used. The HF best bang for your theory has been disproved over and over again.

Really . . . . your Snappy loyalism is distorting your brain !! :lol_hitti

For $359 this newby GJ member cannot find ANY toolbox for sale in America/Canada that is comparable in quality. Only way he can get better, is find a used US General (ie HF) 44" roller toolbox at a pawn shop or on CL.

No need giving clueless advice to a clueless new poster. Post up pics Mickey if you've got 2 bay Snappy/Matco toolboxes NEW that you've bought for less than $359 and were NOT stolen !! :D

PROPER ADVICE to Newby GJer - - - - YES, go buy the US General 44" toolbox !!

Go through my old posts and you see pictures of the boxes and they were not stolen, one was from a retiring dealer, Snap-On KRL double bay for $250 new, no keys though.

exactly. you can get some old crappy snapon boxes for that price. i think i have seen a old mac box this size and it was 900 bucks. the HF one is the best bang for the buck. is snapon better, sure but most people dont need a $4000 box

Great, you scored a once in a lifetime deal on your boxes. The chance of anyone else doing the same is about the same as winning the lottery. Aside from the original poster winning the toolbox lottery, the HF box is a great bang for the buck.

And, I say this as a man who owns a nice SnapOn double bank top and bottom so it's not that I'm a Harbor Freight fanboi.

Depends. See some people actually value their time. Sure they might be able to find a "better" box cheaper used but who knows how long that may take. Weeks, months years? Of sitting on craigslist time after time after time to maybe find a box that needs a good cleaning or parts. Again more time and possibly $ needed. All time that they could be using their new HF box and getting on with their life.

Sometimes your overbearing blatant ignorance is just down right embarrassing.

I highly doubt that, you would just probably resell it.

And if that fails---Steevo bought FOUR of them and built the baddest workbench in the known universe!!!

And when they grow up, they turn into 56"'ers...like I've got...

Worth twice what they're asking for them...and there's not many things you can say that about!!!

Buy the 44" box, you'll love it...

:shocking: No doubt.

I just did a search on the Chicago Craigslist for Snap on box/chest/toolchest, and by golly there is one for under $359.

It's even a cool color.

I've had a lot of Snap-On and MAC boxes over the years. I have a 44" HF box and think it's well worth the money. I don't think you'll be the least bit disapoined in it.

As for the "wait and buy it on Craig's list", That might be true if you live in or near a big city. I live 45 miles from the nearest stoplight. I've been watching our local (within 100 miles) lists for years. If that great deal was there I missed it.

Tuff crowd today. I bought one for my garage work bench and put on a woodworkers bench top to finish it off. It is loaded almost to capacity with wood tools, and as a utility storage box for the extra or seldom used large mechanics tools (ie greater that 1-1/2 inch) and air tools in the shop. I also keep a couple of the smaller side drawers for the smaller hobby tools we use all the time. IMHO, I'm not sure how it will do if your are loading it to the hilt with all your every day tools and trying to roll it around your shop, but newer sears and SO boxes are not so great now either.

I just bought 4 and did the "steevo" install. They seem to be pretty good quality. I am not disappointed at all.

Thanks Steevo you ROCK!

I had one previously, went on a buying binge then bought a 56" box from CL, and now and paring down and going to get the top and bottom HF 44" one again. The 44" HF box rolls nicely, is rock solid, and handles the weight no problem.

ONLY DOWNSIDE is the 18" depth (16" inside) making it a bit tight for me. If they had made it 20"-21" it would've been perfect IMO. But for that kind of money you can't lose. I bought a used one for $275 and sold it for $300 a year later, they keep their value and if bought new you might lose $100 on the thing.

Compare that to the 56" International I bought for $550, with the sales slip in the drawer for $1050. Guy lost $500 and had it 10 months...

OP, does really depend if you live in highly populated area if you'll ever get chance at CL score of a lifetime. Thus, Los Angeles is good, Fargo ND is bad. :D

GJ guru on toolboxes is Mohawk Dave . . . he's probably scored the most affordable great toolboxes in SoCal. Go through the 2013 Garage Sale thread and Toolboxes of GJ and you'll get a feel for those scores.

Me personally, I found pawn shop lightly used US General 44" for $210 last year. There are deals out there, but you'll have to watch CL like a hawk, and go to all garage sales/estate sales you can.

Overall, great scores of Mohawk Dave and Mickey are unlikely to be repeated by the normal Joe. They likely aren't ready just yet to give up all their trade secrets !! :bounce:

I guess what I should have said to the OP is, "As long as you're not Mickey O, you'll never find a better deal on a decent quality box"

You'll learn soon Sims5, ask about anything not "Made In The USA" and Ol Mickey will tell you it's ****. Somehow he's off my ignore list again. . . not sure how that happened. You don't even have to read his posts. . . they are ALWAYS the same.

I'll say the same thing I say about Eastwood welders. Look at the reviews. Those who have actually bought it seem to all love it. Those who didn't buy it just hate China. I don't blame them, but it is what it is. For $359, it's a great deal. I've been watching craigslist like a hawk for a good amount of time and no $300 Snap on chests yet.

Picked one up today, packed well no dings, dents, damage etc...
I thought it was a good value for what I needed it for I don't turn a wrench for a living.
The drawers need to be lubed up a bit they don't slide real easy.
Thanks for the tip on this.
