I never see these on cl. what price would make you jump? My initial thought was anything over$500 i would be happy, what do you think?

Half of new (retail) is typically a good place to start. Retail would be the price without any coupons of course. You may be able to start your price higher than that to leave room for negotiation. Or you may find someone willing to pay more than half of new without negotiation.

really depends on your area. Around here, it would take a while to sell, and it wouldn't be near $500 for both. I have seen a couple of bottoms go for $200 and $250, both in excellent condition. One top was sold for $60, and it was in good condition, except missing the lock (a $5 part)- it was on cl for 3 weeks!. The other top was sold for not much more (can't remember). Here in central Oregon, you just about have to give it away to sell it, and it better be in very good condition. Hope you have better luck in your area.

$400, if truly in good condition. As others have mentioned, you can always go down in price and selling price is very location dependent.

Why? It's cuz they last. Not saying any other brand doesn't.

On the tool box issue... If you just have top and bottom no lockers or side cab I would say like 6-700 would be good

I agree. My bottom unit is built well. Much better than the flimsy crapsman I used to own, and that was a top and bottom unit that was built in the early 90's when they were supposedly better!

I would say $300 for the bottom and $225 for the top would be a good starting point.

:+1:

I have seen some HF 44" bottoms on craigslist here, and they're gone in a day or two at $300, or at least the listings are removed. I don't know much about the top box other than I want one. I'd guess if you put it on there at $500 for both they'd be gone pretty quickly, at least around here.

You know what is kinda ironic, to me at least. As much bashing as Craftsman and HF get, they have, by far the highest % of retail resale value on their boxes. :lol_hitti So could one conclude that they are the best investments? :dunno:

Yea, it's pretty interesting from the economic perspective. If he does sell them at $525, you're looking at a loss of 16%...that's pretty darn good. Of course that's based on the $359 and $269 coupon price.

One of the big reasons the HF's retain their value so well is there's nothing close to the quality in that price range. If you have around $600 to spend, what other options are there? Not much for a top and bottom of that size and quality.

The other thing people forget about this price range is relativity. Spending an extra $500 on a $3000 box is only a 17% increase in cost, whereas spending an extra $100 on a $500 box is a 20% increase. It's "only" a hundred dollars matters more to people when they're shopping in that price range.

I have the 56" bottom and 44" top. I was going to upgrade to the 56" top but I'm actually pretty happy with my set up. I like having a little extra room on the top for my battery charger and WD-40, etc...

The 44 comes with two extra bolts incase you want to add a side box maybe the 56 is the same way check the sides of your box for two holes at the bottom

Good thinking I'll check it out tonight. They don't advertise that as being able to do that or try to make it sound like that's an option from a marketing sales point

In the november HF flyer, the side locker and side cabinet have fine print that states that they will work on the 56" box as well.

IDK if the 56" box has pre-drilled holes for the add-ons, you may have to drill your own for the bottom bolts. Both have hanging lips on the top to hang off either side of your chosen box. It may be a little short though. I put the side cabinet on the 26" stack, but had to move the holes to fit around internal support on the 26.

Harbor Freight's retail price shouldn't be taken into account in any way. No one has paid retail at Harbor Freight for anything, ever.

alright its posted i'll let you guys know how i do

The only way you're going to sell that anywhere near the "pretty firm" $550 price is if you find someone who has no idea what Harbor Freight is or that coupons are a real-life thing. Anyone could walk in and get the combo brand new with a warranty for $628 right now.
