Has anyone modified the Harbor Freight 46" mobile work bench/storage cabinet into a welding cart?

I know HF has the large Vulcan cart:

but for about $100 less, it might be a good starting point to fabricate.

I suspect some have used the 4 or 5 drawer service cart as a starting point, but the mobile workbench has the lower doors which if you remove the shelves, would hold welding a hemet.

I've done searches and image searches, but haven't seen many modifications done to the 46" mobile bench into a welding cart.

Welding cart has the larger wheels to support the weight of the bottle(s). Careful, you might spend a dollar to save a dime.

I had a guy give me a USAF pilots helmet bag and it is perfect for dropping my welding helmet down into. Keeps it dust free and I can hang it on the regulator on the bottle.

Cart capacity shouldn't be an issue - the 46 inch cabinet has a max working load of 1200lbs vs the weld cart's 500lbs. Building a simple angle iron frame that sandwiches between the casters and body of the cabinet should be pretty simple and would allow a bottle rack to be installed. The weld cart does have some optimization for weld supplies that the cabinet doesn't have, but I suppose that all comes down to what your specific needs are. I don't think it ends up being a cost savings one way or the other.

That mobile works cart is basically the same one that you can get at Home Depot for $198 right now

Do you have a link to the Home Depot cart you are referencing? I see one for $369 built by Frontier. I believe the HF cart has a coupon that puts it the $269 range

There is a 20% off coupon for all vulcan accessories that never expires, so you can get the welding cart for a few $ less than the workbench if you consider the fact that hf generally doesn't allow coupons on anything cabinet or toolbox related

if you go to images.google.com and search for vulcan 20% off , There's a few sites that show it
