Number 2 question is, do you guys think that this side cab will fit/look ok on it?----->http://www.tooltopia.com/mountain-3350ra.aspx BTW the cabinet is gloss red, i know someone who has one

20% off coupons will work for the carts. They may tell u it wont work but their computer system accepts it. Just have a cashier scan it. Items that do and do not accept the coupon are determined by their register. I have had a couple of managers tell me they wont work but they do. They are considered tool carts not cabinets. Unless they have changed it very recently this is the case. I used a coupon on mine.

+1 on the 20% coupon. I bought mine at $199, with a 20% coupon, which brings it down to $160 + tax. For some reason, the tool cart is not considered a 'tool chest' and you CAN use the 20% coupon on it.

When they do go on sale, they go to $160 on a 'Super Coupon' which means you cannot use another 20% coupon with it.

GET THE CART, you won't regret it (even at $200).

My 5-drawer tool cart (with the shiny bits removed...)

And with the 7-drawer end cabinet hanging on it (temporarily)...

Hee hee--I hadn't even read your question about the side box, when I went ahead and posted my picture of the tool cart with the side box on it.
The side cabinet definitely fits--BUT--you cannot close the lid of the cart with the side box on. It would only take a minute with the grinder to make that possible (but for now, it doesn't bother me too much to keep my lid up).

Does it go on sale any cheaper than $199?
No or very very seldom to the point I've never seen it.

Best deal is $199 and 20% off coupon which gets you to $160. Yes, teh coupon WILL work as it is a cart and not a tool box. YOu just have to explain that to the store mgr. adn have him call HF mgmt if necessary. BTDT.

Also-Latest coupons are for $169 (cannot be used with any other coupon) adn can be found in most car magazines this month.

That said, I can only assume the price of these will rise as a few months ago they were offering them with a $159 coupon nationally. When coupon deals get worse, that tells me prices are on the rise or mfgr costs are going up.

As for color, the new units are the bright red finsih, and the older units are the maroon crinkle coat finish.

As for that side box fitting,. it should. May require a little modding or some fasteners, but my guess it that it wll fit.

They would not give me 20% off with the coupon. I explained about being at cart, etc. I asked them to scan it, they did and it did not work. Do these ever go on sale for around $160?

Yes, there was just a coupon for it for $159.99 or something, but I think it's over now. I'll double-check just in case.

If you're interested, I have a coupon for the 4-drawer black cart for $99, it's a very nice cart as well.

There's a coupon in January's Hot Rod magazine for $159... I went to get it and ended up getting the red 26" box for coupon price of $289 instead.

That makes 3 times I went to get that cart and ended up getting something else instead. Oh well, 4th time's a charm.

Hey Machine Punk...Does the top need to be open to open the drawers. I have been looking for something like that for a while now, seems like every time I go to HF to forget to look at tool boxes/carts.

Thanks

The drawers will not open with the top closed, but it is easy to modify the catches on the drawers but then they do not lock.

Looking at the picture more I feel kind of dumb having even asked. I assume I would just need to cut those black pieces in the back that are attached to the top. Thanks cheesehead

You can do that, but others have drilled the rivets that hold the black lock blocks in place. I just removed the drawers and slightly bent the tabs on the back of the drawers that "catch" the lock bars. If needed I hopefully can bend the tabs back to have a locking box again. Mine is a home box so I never need to lock it

Where are said rivets? I've got a raincheck for one at $150 ($199 sale and 25% off coupon on 1/1) so I don't have it yet to look at but I'm thinking i'd like to modify mine so I can open drawers without opening the lids. Not locking isn't a big deal since its for home use.
thanks!

The rivets are in the red metal to the right and left of the black blocks, it should be pretty easy to spot them once you get your box put together.

Then somethings wrong, if you're trying to buy the five drawer service cart that's on sale for $199.99 the 20% coupon can be used....period. Now if you're trying use a super coupon and the 20% coupon that won't work...period.

Get the manager next time, tell him to call HF corp headquarters so he can better understand corp rules.

Casters are just fine. Even on a heavily loaded cart used on a mfg production floor for half a decade.

Cart is a champ.

Below is the pic if the interior top storage area.

The four black rivets , (one on either side of the plunger lock rods) are what you need to drill out.

(My cart is refitted with Snap-On elbow hinges and nylon shims due to the ever failing HF gas shocks thus the odd set-up. :) )

Will they ship one of them 5 drawer carts? They are 113 miles away from me and I can't drive my diesel as I think it needs new injectors or IP. Cheyeene, WY is my closest. Anybody close enough to get one and ship to me if needed?

Thanks, JASTECH

That is what I was trying to do and the cashier scanned the (20% off coupon on the Price of $199.99) and told me it would not work. I may call and ask the manager. Thanks.

The only things I hate about this cart:

The drawer trim sux. I pulled mine off like others here have.

The wheels, even when locked, swivel too easily, so the cart still moves a little. My SO cart by comparison stays put.

The powdercoat seems soft, and easily scratched. Mine is 6 mos old and looks like it's 5 years old.

The side screwdriver holders don't keep the drivers straight up and down at all. the holes are either too big or too small depending on what's in them.

Nutting and bolting it together, I had to loosen it so it sat level, and didn't 3 wheel. This was even after assembling it upside down on it's lid as some suggested.

Drawer releases are only a small piece on the side of the drawer. Owning snap on boxes, this is annoying since I instinctively read for the middle of the drawer, only to find no release there.

The lock *****. Even the key *****, and I broke my key's plastic top by dropping my keys.

That being said, it's still a good deal for the $, but there are certainly better quality options, but they all cost double or more...

The casters are great. One of the first things I noticed, when unpacking the cart, is that the casters seemed HUGE.

I've never had a Snap On, or other big-name-brand, cart to compare this to. I have been nothing but pleased with this cart so far.

I'm not sure what's going on with the 20% coupon not working, but in my opinion, the cart is STILL worth it at $200.

Someone else has answered already, but yes, the lid needs to be up for the drawers to open. I kind of like that feature. As others have said, it would probably be easy enough to defeat that feature, if you didn't like it.

I definitely took the cheesy aluminum trim off the doors. If you keep it, you will need to do a little bit of bending to get a couple of them to stay on by 'friction.'

I wholeheartedly recommend this cart.
