I've had an online site call me, and ask why I didn't complete my transaction! She didn't sound happy when I told her her shipping costs killed it.

Wait until you are surfing other sites and you see an ad for the exact item and retailer you looked at a few days earlier. The Interwebs have all sorts of tricks.

I've had other stores do that to me. Don't like it one bit.

That's actually really smart advertising, and I haven't made up my whether I'm for or against it. It's a bit annoying to see the same item on a dozen websites after I already decided not to buy it.

Sears.com does that. If you leave something in your cart they'll send you an email asking if
you had trouble checking out. I assume it's because they're so desperate to make a buck without paying someone commission haha.

I did that with HF with about $12k in the cart. I had people calling me nonstop about it until I finally answered the call. I'll start putting my friends phone number in the field from now on.

haha, I forgot all about that! Their computers went crazy once and kept sending me reminder after reminder after reminder. I kept trying to unsubscribe but nobody at Sears.com could help me. I finally found the correct check box to uncheck to stop the emails.

Is this an Inside Track deal? If not since when does HF require you to log in or create any sort of user id?

I got the same email.
When I read "are you having trouble checking out?"
I actually got offended and canceled the order.

I usually add stuff to the cart under a fake name and address...then clear my cookies and put my real name and address in to order it if I decide to go for it. That way "John Smith" at "123 Main Street", phone number (123) 456-7890 and "[email protected]" gets all the spam :D

You could try to use this to your advantage and suggest that you might be interested in purchasing the item in your cart if they were to apply a discount to counter the shipping cost, match a competitor, etc.

private browsing is only on your side, not the website side. it's to prevent the wife from seeing your **** sites.

Just listened to a BBC program about how filling your online "cart" and waiting a day will usually get you a a bit of a discount.... trying to motivate us.

It does not store cookies or a cache as well, which prevents the web site from gathering your info and storing it.
