It depends. The list of 'very good' stuff at HF is not very long. The tool boxes are surprisingly good (compared to Craftsman, not Snap-On). The larger US General compressors at HF have been made in the U.S. (in South Carolina by ABAC/American IMC), whereas I would guess the little ones are Chinese.

I purchased and returned the 21 Gallon Oiled Vertical (Black One - Not the older Red Series). Only had it for about 3 weeks before I brought it back.

The compressor didn't like to start in the colder temps and it was very sensitive to voltage drops on my 110 line. In the end, I replaced it with a Vertical 26 Gallon Oiless Craftsman/PowerMate (Still made in China - so it was a wash).

For my needs, it works great.

This is a good question as I'm looking in the 60 Gallon range and the compressors at HF don't look too bad for the price.

I just bought a Campbell Hausfeld 60 Gallon 3HP (made in USA, decent warranty, national chain) for 399.99 at Tractor Supply. I just came here looking for ideas for plumbing it in.

I look forward to being able to recommend it after I've put it to good use.

I have one of the new black HF 21 gallon compressors, and it works pretty good. Haven't had any issues other than the fact that I hit the regulator knob with a car part and made it leak, but they sent me a replacement regulator
