HF Badlands 12000# Winch Question

Hi,
I have a new HF Badlands 12000# winch on my trailer.
Wired it up, exactly like the instructions, rechecked wiring and all connections.
Below is a picture of the Solenoid inside Control Box
Everything is tight. But winch does nothing with either the Tendered Control or the Wireless Remote UNLESS...

I run a “separate” wire from the Center Terminal Ground) of the solenoid’s input to the Negative terminal of the Battery.

As designed, this same Ground Center Terminal (that has to be jumpered to BATT (-) to work) also connects to a 14ga single Black wire that runs down under the Winch Motor to the motors ground terminal which is connected directly to negative terminal of the battery. Makes no sense why the jumper is needed to make it work.

I read there were problems with connectors on 14ga wire failing, but the wire is solid and rings out good.

Any suggestions/advice please.

Thanks
Leaky

I think that your 14ga wire is bad. Connections sometimes work well enough to "ring out" on a continuity tester, but fail when substantial current is pulled. Remove the 14ga wire from the solenoid's center ground terminal. Brush the removed connector across battery +. You should get sparks. If not, that 14ga wire is bad.

I always use an idiot light to ring out a suspect wire, if it seems odd after a resistance check via voltmeter says it should be fine.

More load gives a more positive result.
