I have a cheap HF blast cabinet. In general I am not unhappy with it. I am trying to understand why in the viewing area there are three layers of material.

1) The protection peel of layer.
2) A piece of glass.
3) The top layer is mylar.

Why is the mylar or what ever it is required?

On #3 if its on the out side, peel it off it's only there to make sure it arrives to you in good condition .

The outside plastic layer is there to protect you if the glass shatters. Since most people have their face within inches of the glass, and often without any eye protection, the plastic outer layer saves your face from potential nasty outcomes.

Think about what goes on inside the cabinet while you are blasting. Of course, there's the media coming from the gun at high velocities. There's the debris being blasted off, which sometimes comes off in chunks, small parts that can come off or go flying when you lose grip, and large object can hit the glass when you are moving them around. Even with the protective layer inside, the glass will chip and erode over time, and this can cause the glass to shatter or burst on its own, unexpectedly.
