Just bought a blow torch to hook to a 20# LPG tank for starting brush pile fires and burning weeds. The gas line is only 6 feet or so. Can I use an air line hose to extend the line? Do I need a special type of rubber line? I hate to spend too much as I only have $15 in the torch after the 25% off coupon. I would like to sit the tank back 10-15 feet or more and then use the torch to start the pile on fire. I read on HF about people putting the tanks on old golf bag carts to move them around. This would be tough for me around rough ground torn up by my bobcat tracks.

Any proper replacement hose will cost you more than the torch! You may be better off to buy another torch and remove the hose from it and couple it to the one you have. Then you have a spare torch head as well.

I've used a garden hose before, it worked fine. How long do you intend for the torch to be in use?

They sell actual LP extension hoses with the fittings on them. If you want just the hose no fittings, IIRC, Buna is the one you want for LP gas. Check me on that though before you purchase. It should actually be rated for LP gas, IIRC it also has some protective coating that makes it static resistant. Then there is also a webbing in there to keep it all together.

There are only a few things I just don't fool around with, pressurized flammable gas is one of them.

Absolutely do NOT use an air hose! You need grade T fuel gas hose. The simplest thing to do is to go to the welding supply store and buy a length of grade T oxy/propane hose. Remove the metal parts and pull the two hoses apart. Put your compression fittings or whatever on the fuel hose and use the oxy hose for a short flexible air line whip.

But you can buy propane grade hose at any good hardware store.

BTW I don't think much of those HF weed burners when you compare them to a real Magnum roofer's torch. At a blacksmithing session awhile back a buddy had both set up side by side (smiths use weed burners to heat forged parts to a black heat then they wipe on old motor oil - stinky, but leaves a beautiful black finish). I tried both. The HF unit didn't work quite right and was completely cheesy in comparison.

And for God's sake don't call it a blow torch! A real blow torch was something medieval jeweler's used. They had a tube in them that went in the jeweler's mouth for blowing. Literally.
