HF cut off wheel any good?

I was going to get an inexpensive cut off wheel for my new air compressor for occasional use around the garage. Is the harbor freight cut off wheel any good? I figured for $5 with the coupon might as well give it a shot unless it's garbage.

I use there 41/2 in. cut off wheels all the time have not had any issues with them.

If it's the Pneumatic one (around 2-3" wheel) I'd check how much air it uses. I used one this summer and it drained the pressure from a 25 gallon compressor in probably a minute, and the compressor couldnt keep up.

If you are talking about 3" cut-off wheels then yes they are good. If you are talking about a $5.00 cut-off tool, then no. Air hogs with very little performance

I have a couple of HF pneumatic cut off tools, straight and 90degree. I find that they can be stopped very easy but for light use they work fine.
I also purchase my cut off wheels, sanding belts(blue) and 6" grinding discs at HF. For the price all of the abrasives work good, I use my electric dye grinder with small cut off wheels and they work well also.

I have the 3 inch air cutoff and use it a lot at work. 2 years a **** ton of wheels and its cutting as good as it was the day I took it out of the box. 5 dollars well spent

I'm not sure about the tool as to how good it is. I'm sure it eats up alot of air like most cheap cut offs do so unless you have a compressor that keep up with it I'd look at the specs first and figure that out

As for the cutting discs. I'd stay away from the HF ones. Iv heard to many horror stories. Not worth the couple of bucks you save to get some good name brand ones with a ring and don't blow apart.

The HF discs cut ok, but they will not cut as much as the brand name ones do in my experience with both. It also greatly depends on how's adept you are with a grinder

I like the Sait, Diablo, Dewalt makita,
but There plenty of good band names

Iv always used Norton discs and have good luck with them. Never broke one or anything.

I second that. I buy them in the 10 packs and I've never had a problem.

I have had no luck with HF air tools. All have failed. Most have had the "throttle" stick to where it won't shut off, which is extremely dangerous.
