Picked up my 3/8" impact for under $40 out the door.

Mine I hope will be there from the main warehouse on Thursday since they were out in the store. I played with one a month ago and was pleased and it would be the last Earthquake to add to the others I have except the 3/4 and the 1 inch impacts.

At this time I am not sure there will be an improved version, and unless they do the warranty some other way, I do not think it is worth it.....

Orange, Calif all they had was 1/2 and larger impacts. 1/2 was marked down to $70 and after tax and 20% coupon out the door for $60.32.

I skipped the warranty, 90 days to beat on it, and after that I'll take my chances at repairing it if it has any issues, but I think the chances of that with my use is tiny. I would also be VERY surprised if a warranty a year or so from now would get anything other than a refund of the clearance price with a receipt.

Also I would like to know how it is they could improve on this impact?

1/2" 0r 3/8"?

No it ***** for me in a way, I am
75.6 miles, 1 hour 41 mins away.
I can make it quicker than that but it's still a bit of a haul.

Hell, you can't beat that.

Yeah you really cant beat that, however I went to 2 different Harbor Freights. One of them where I bought 2 of my impacts told me that I had to register online for the extended warranty where the other told me that when they take your information, it is automatically in the system. Best bet is probably keep your receipts. The funny thing that the cashier said today was that " You probably don't want to warranty your impact because it is a discontinued item". I thought thats funny because if this tool fails within the period, it would be a good insurance that basically pays itself off. I mean the 2 year plan is only $9.99, I still did it and could care less if she thought that i was stupid. So now I have 1/2" Impact Wrench and Air Ratchet along side with 3/8" Impact Wrench and Air Ratchet. Well its cheap, and thought it was a heck of a deal. I love Harbor Freight

I don't know, so far, I REALLY like how it feels and looks. It's a nice little brother to my HF 1/2" professional impact ($50 one).

I like my 1/2 impact and my 3 ratchets....

If anyone is interested there i a guy selling rebuild kits on Ebay if anyone is interested for around $3 dollars for the 3/8 model impact....

I got the 3/8" one tonight. This thing has got some kick. For 39 bucks its a deal.

I thought so too. It sounded like it had some balls!

I also have the standard 3/8" air ratchet (not professional or earthquake) It doesn't have much power or doesn't spin very fast, but does what i need it to do for $16

There is no comparison from the base level HF ratchet to the Earthquake ratchet and that also goes the same from the HF Pro to the Earthquake version, They are not even in the same ball park in performance and quality....

I had 1/4 ratchet in my cart last night, $43 shipped using a 20% coupon, but decided to wait and see if I wanted anything else to share the $9 shipping, this morning back ordered.

I'm going to try another HF store later today and see what they have in stock and maybe have them do a search of the local stores etc., mostly for the 3/8 impact.

Haven't seen any more news on potential replacements.

It is because HF in the past has sold some crappy stuff, so when some people see the HF logo on it, they immediately think it is junk without looking under the hood first and taking a test drive:headscrat.

If you can locate one of the 1/4 inch ratchets, I would get it.

i would think so too... 1/2" impact and 3/8" ratchet... to me are the most useful for an average dude like me.

My local harbor freight has a few 1/4", I'll just pick one up to add to my collection since it's cheap. Might be convenient later on, and I have a ton of 1/4" sockets. We will see, been spending a lot of time and money at harbor freight getting good deals. Really no regrets

The 3/8 is much bigger and heavier then the 1/4 inch and will not fit as well in tight spots. Plus the 3/8 is not as good for delicate stuff like valve bodies and small stuff....

My local store isn't running the clearance sale but has both impacts on the shelf at reg price. I was hoping to pick up the 1/2" gun.

Grabbed a 1/2 earthquake and the replacement plan for my pops this afternoon. Hard to be value wise.

Make sure you have them scan the items you want at the cash register, and don't just rely on the shelf tag being correct.

I got the 1/2" and 3/8" impacts and the 1/2" ratchet and they each rang up $20 or $30 less than the price marked on the shelf.

Did post this in the other 3/8" thread.

Just got the Air Cat today. That was pretty fast shipping.
Have not tried it out yet, will probably take it to work to try out.
Nice looking gun, looks like you can only adjust the power on the tighten direction. The HF 3/8" you can turn up or down the power either direction.
Have to say I think so far,m only held it a few seconds, but the HF seems more comfortable.
Still have to call or write the company about the Warranty?

I had the girl scan one on friday and it came up at normal price. I figured no clearance here since the store has only been open 3 weeks.

yeah, I thought I'd pick up a kit too.
Thanks.
They are selling quite a few 3/8" earthquakes on e bay

They have had problems with the HF in my area with them disappearing of the shelves and going out the back or front doors. You have to ask for one and they bring them from the back but you know that story from the other thread. I think the ones on Ebay may be some of the missing tools because they are mostly new.....

yup, exactly.. It was $99 on the shelf, rang up at like $69, and then I used 20% off and it was like $59 OTD

Same here this afternoon -- $69 less 20%, plus a free tape measure 'cause I had a coupon for that as well. Pretty good deal I'm thinking....

Third day in a row for me at HF, bought the 3/8 impact, none on the shelf, not even an empty box, but I found the tag with $89.99 on it and sent a guy into the back with the 92453 stock number and he found one, rang up with the 20% off coupon as $39.02.

Got another free pair of the utility scissors.

Dollars days, so I grabbed five of the 4" cheapo ratchet clamps for $1 each.

Picked up the $6 quick release holder for the air hammer.

No 1/4 air ratchets in stock, 2 showed at a local store, but I had them check physical inventory and they had zero. I kept after the store kid until he filled out a special order form for one of the 7 showing at the warehouse, but I understand its iffy. Left them my email for notification.

I suspect that 3/8 impact will see the most use, good power for the small size and weight, and I have a wider variety of impact sockets in 3/8 drive. Also ordered the tune up kit off ebay for $3.

Joke is in the morning I will be ordering a batch of air couplers from CEJN (the best swiss made) for some spares as well as some of these new tools, and price for those will likely exceed the cost of these cheap air tools.

Went to another HF. All 3/8 are gone. There are some 1/2 left but I already have two 1/2 IR. How come the 1/4 ratchet only 10% off?

My store better have my 3/8 impact on thusday because I ordered it on friday. I will lose it and get very angry if they screw this one up....

Did you see the inventory online somehow or was it on the in store computer?

I've always hoped they would start showing in store availability online like many other retailers. It would have saved me a few trips.

It has to be checked in store. It would be nice if it could be done online because it would prevent waisted trips all the time.

When they closed out the Earthquake impact sockets, they later replaced them with very similar ones branded "Pittsburgh Pro."

It could just be a branding change. I would guess the new ones will be very similar just with a different name.
