There is a lifetime warranty sticker on the handle. Do you still have your recipt?

If so you have a $9.60 hammer (after 20% coupon) that you can exchange for a new one when it breaks. I see that hammer gets 4 star reviews.

I've seen people return abused stuff in the store while I was in line, and they took it back.

Same thing happens to Snap On dead blow hammers. A good warranty on hammers is a nice thing to have.

If you want to hit something really hard, you need a lead hammer. That hammer looks like it has been used really hard.

Yeah it was used quite a bit. You got your moneys worth it was 10 bucks. Mine has held up fine. I use the 4 lb drilling hammer all the time too. Only thing that ***** is the fiberglass handle doesn't have a good grip so you need to add some tape/rope/cord whatever to it.

My Snap On dead blow ball peen outer coating broke off the same way recently. I've had it since 1985. I don't think the Snap On man will replace it. I'm sure current prices on dead blow hammers from Snap On are not cheap.

If he does not, the 1800 number will. Just got my drillers deadblow replaced after the bottom of my handle cracked while working in a 10F garage.

I've actually had an old Snap On deadblow come apart just like that. Warrantied with no issues. HF will do the same and give you a new hammer.

I had one just like that replaced a few weeks ago.
No receipt needed.

They seem to last me a few years at a time, but I don't think twice about hammering on edges, or corners, or anything else that tears them up.

As far as I know, pretty much every brand of deadblow does that eventually. Some might last longer.... but they all do that eventually.

I have almost all USA made tools (SK, Snap On, Armstrong, Craftsman are the main ones), but dead blows were the one thing that I picked up from HF as my main tools for home. If they all are going to fail eventually, I don't want to spend $50-$100 on a hammer (even if it will be replaced when it fails). I spent about $30 to get all the HF dead blows and if I break one, I get a replacement from HF. Hard to beat.

Do not mail before calling, they will not accept the package/tools.

Call the 1800 number, if they want the broken tool they will email you a UPS shipping label. Only things they have done that for me is $$$ ratchets or deadblow hammers. They will tell you on the phone if you have to mail the broken one back.

Tell your Snap On dealer you'll find one somewhere else then...what is the point of buying a tool with that kind of price tag and warranty if they won't warranty/replace it? :headscrat

Remember, it is plastic. There is no plastic out there that will not crack from hard pounding at least not for now. Even if it is not use, it will eventually crack from aging.

Yep. It's just how the type of hammer is made and, of course, what it's used on. An automotive tech is going to go through a deadblow faster than a guy in a paint store that's just using it to close cans.

Shhh! This isn't possible! The Snap On guy told me everything they sell is made with special pixie farts and will never break! ;)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the difference here is that snap on and better quality dead blows will last a lot longer than hf before these things happen.

I can't say whether that's true or not, but I do know that you can break any brand on the first go if you're hamfisted enough.

I hope these sorts of comments won't be your only contribution to GJ.

Hammers are basic tools. If you are a serious craftsman, pro or DIYer, you have your choice of a number of hammers all with lifetime warranties. If you are young or work hard, it's only a matter of time until the plasticizer in your handle gives up. Plastic doesn't last forever.

I would choose a hammer from a company that you know will be around in 10 years, I.e. Not Sears, that offers a convenient warranty service. Snap On offers very convenient warranty service for some.

Snap on hammers won't last forever. But they are very nice, possibly the best hammers out there. The handles are nice, offering two comfortable positions. I don't think paying $40 for a hammer I will use and be happy using for the rest of my life is too much to pay. If you want to pay $10 for the cheapest hammer made and use that for the rest of your life, God bless you. Just don't criticize me for wanting to use nice tools that don't hurt my hand.

The key here is, some people here are thinking hammers are disposable. You buy it for $10 and when it breaks you buy a new one. Snap On doesn't agree. My guess is, the people selling the $10 hammers are counting on the fact that 10 years from now, 90% of customers will have lost the receipt, forgot where they purchased, or just won't bother with the warranty because we are consumer disposers.

It happens even to so and matco stuff the questions you need to ask yourself are 1
did you get your money's worth out of it if you had it for more than a couple of months id say yes. and from the looks of the hammer id say you've had that for a while . and 2 whats the warranty situation it's an hf hammer it has a lifetime warranty i know so store can be **** about the warranty. worse case your only out 10 bucks .

Not making any statements about HF either way, but I had a Blue Point deadblow that did the exact same thing.

My Blue Point's cover came off the same way as the center picture and SO warranteed it

I bought mine back in the late 80's

OP, take a ride down to HF and exchange it

End of story

I'd rather buy it for $10, and get it replaced when it breaks. (like I did once already)

To me at least, harborfreight ranks near the top of the list of tools companies I think are still going to be around in 10 years...

And my time is worth .......

At that rate my time is worth 5.3 hammers per hour, and that doesn't take into consideration week-end and holiday rate. So if it takes me longer then 11.32 minutes to dig up a receipt, drive across town to Happy Fart and then argue with the sales folk over a "Hammer" then I've lost money/time

My shop time is at a premium - I don't have all the time I would like to work in my shop so I don't get real excited about the prospects about wasting it on a bogus imitation

Let's see - pay $40 for one Snap On db hammer or $20 for two HF dead blow hammers. SO breaks and you have to wait to warranty (or go to HF and get one to use in the meantime) or

One HF breaks, you use other one until you get to store to replace first.

I'll save $20 and have two HF hammers.

Certain things only the best will do for me - for example, I have a set of SO flare nut wrenches in metric and sae. Most of the rest is up for debate. Dead blow hammers - Harbor Freight will do.
